Could you be our Cause of the Month for December?

Does your cause stand out from the rest?  Tell us why and they could win £250!

This month’s Cause of the Month competition is in association with our good friends at Halfords who have kindly offered to donate £250 to the winning cause.

All you need to do to help your cause win is tell us why they should. Perhaps they’ve made a lasting difference to you or your family, or maybe they’ve changed your community for the better, or worked tirelessly and without complaint to make the world a better place.

Whatever the reason, tell us why below. We’ll announce the winning cause on 1st December 2010.

Make sure you tell your supporters to nominate you to – use the ‘share’  buttons above this post to share on Facebook, twitter and by email.

November’s winner was Animal Rescue Kos who, in an amazing act of kindness, split their prize with RSDR who came in in second place.  Read their story.

  1. Toni says:

I am currently raising money to fund for my expedition to Morocco. In Morocco my team and I will be helping out the local community by, for example, helping them to build a well or teaching the school children. We are also hoping to buy goods before we leave and take them to Morocco to give to the local community, something that will benefit them or something we can use while we’re helping them, such as tools or paint. This is a life-changing opportunity and allows us to develop skills such as leadership, team-work and communication.
We will also be going on a trek up M’Goun, not the highest mountain in Morocco but is the most technical. We will have the chance to explore part of the country and learn about their culture.

  2. Emma-Jayne Simpson who supports Omagh Riding for Disabled Group says:

I vote for Omagh RDA (riding for disabled) for the charity of the month. They are continuously busy providing daily therapeutic rides for children and adults with physical and learning disabilities! With the growing number of clients and volunteers they are hoping to raise money to extend the premises to provide permanent stables for the ponies as well as cover the outdoor arena to make more use of it. It is a volunteer run charity and most money is raised through group fundraising!

  3. Angie Gore who supports Norwood Primary School - Southport says:

The Southport Formby and Ormskirk Children’s Diabetic Club is my cause for the month nomination. We arrange educational courses and day trips out for the children and their familys. £250.00 would be a huge help to us as we rely soley on donations and sadly there are so many equally worthy causes that donations are becoming less. Thank you in anticipation.

  4. carole jones who supports South Wales Animal Rescue says:

Please can you put South Wales Animal Rescue Up for December as we are fighting hard for funds for the rescue animals and to put our transport back on the road.

  5. David King who supports St Andrew's Church- Seaside - Eastbourne says:

St Andrew’s Church, Seaside in Eastbourne is currently raising funds to rebuild our church hall that was destroyed in an arson attack back in May this year. We were insured but the costs to rebuild exceed the insurance settlement and we are currently trying to make up a £30,000 (approx) shortfall! The Hall was extensively used by a preschool who have had to find temporary accommodation, as well as Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, Karate Club and other organisations that have all had to make different arrangements until we can rebuild! £250 would really boost our own fundraising efforts!

  6. Anneli Warburton who supports 1st Swinton Girls Brigade says:

We are a church organisation called Girls Brigade and unfortunately being associated with a church means we haven’t much money to do some of the activities we want to do with our girls. £250 means we could do so much more, Days out, treats, new uniforms, new equipment to name but a few things.
    My fingers are crossed.

  7. Helen Lowe who supports Dogs For The Disabled says:

    Hello,
Could you please consider dogs for the disabled Wakefield, as your cause for the month.
They are a charity who train assistant dogs for disabled adults and children. They have just started another programme which helps families to train their family dog to help with their child who suffers from Autism.
I have an assistant dog who I was given back in February. He has made a real difference to my life and that of my family. The charity supports the dog through out the dogs working life (10 years) but does not receive any government funding.
Each assistant dog will cost in the region of £35,000, during its working life.
This cause of the month donation of £250 would help put 4 more puppies into training.
    Many thanks

  8. Heather MacAndrew who supports The Born Free Foundation says:

I would like the money to go to Born Free. We have had a facebook campaign to free two dolphins from a cesspit. The members rose daily to around 22,000. We put pressure on anybody we could think of. Protests took place in Turkey and we were struggling to get folk to listen.
Our team in Turkey got Born Free involved and they took up the challenge.
Our two dolphins were failing fast an would probably have died had the Team not worked night and day to free them. They would not have survived another week had they stayed tin tha filthy pool.
On the 5th september the dolphins were freed and transported to a temporary sea pen. They have now had a new one built and will begin rehab. They are eating and putting on weight but it takes money to feed two growing dolphins.
£250.00 would buy a lot of fish and it would please us all to think Born Free would benefit.

  9. Shelley Fry says:

I would like to nominate Winchelsea School in Poole which is a special needs school for children between the ages of 4-16 with a variety of special/physical/emotional and behavioural needs.
The money would be a great help to our school because we are currently fundrasing to provide some new trampolines for the children to use which would benefit them emotionally and physically.
Our target is £10,000 and we are doing various different fundrasing events such as sponsored walks, christmas and summer fayres but we are always looking for donations and new ways to raise funds for our school.
The school population is expanding every year and the need for more equipment grows with each and every new pupil joining our school.
We would be grateful if you could consider donating £250 to our school.
    Thank you.

  10. Anita Parsons says:

I would like to nominate Rudozem Street Dog Rescue for the month of November. We are still desperately trying to raise enough funds for a dog shelter before the owner sells to someone else so 250 pounds is a lot of money to us. However if we do win this month, we would also like to share the winnings with Animal Rescue Kos and donate 125 pounds as a thank you to them, as they donated half their prize winnings to RSDR in the month of October. Thank you to everyone that has supported us.

Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR) is a foundation run by an English family that rescues street dogs and cats from the streets and tries to find them loving homes. Please view our Video Documentary on RSDR at this link: http://www.streetdogrescue.com/apps/videos/videos/show/10044870-rudozem-street-dog-rescue-english-

Diane & Tony Rowles currently run RSDR from their own family home and have up to 55 dogs and 6 cats in their house and backyard. There are literally hundreds and thousands of dogs in the streets in Bulgaria. Many of these dogs are abused, spat on, shot, kicked, beaten, or worse and in the cold winter months a lot of these dogs die. There is no animal welfare in Bulgaria and a lot of attitudes by local people are to treat them like vermin. The majority of these dogs are not dangerous and it is heartbreaking to see one of them go up to someone only to have someone throw a stone at them. Many of them are puppies born in the streets and end up dying in the cold winter months. The so-called Dog Isolators (supposed shelteres) in Bulgaria are nothing but a place of torture where they round up dogs, and leave them starving, or kick them or beat them to death. RSDR are trying to raise money to get their own shelter to help many more hundreds of dogs (to stop them going to the Isolators) and to try and save as many from dying in the cold winter months, aswell as start a spay and neuter programme to reduce the population. RSDR have also had complaints from locals about the noise the dogs make from their residential house, which is another reason why we are so desperate to get this shelter.
RSDR have only 1-2 months to raise 38,000 euros for a plot of land for a dog shelter, before the owner will sell to someone else. They have been searching many plots of land and a lot of these places have had no road access, no electricity and no water and they were still asking for anything between 25,000 to 45,000 euros and that was just for the land only!! The land we have found has a building already on it!! and the owner is only asking for 38,000 which is a bargain price!!. We can’t miss this opportunity. We need a place to work from. The current vet does not know how to spay bitches, and we need a shelter with a surgery so we can start our spay and neuter scheme as we’ve had volunteer vets offer to help but they need a place to work from.

please everyone vote for us, or please help by donating also to our website. We need all the help we can get. The cold winter months are coming up again, and we want to try and save as many dogs as we can. RSDR have currently now have had 94 dogs adopted in other countries and our next adoption trip is only next week. Please help this amazing family with their life saving work!!!

  11. Debbie Howland who supports Cool2Care says:

I would like to nominate Cool2Care for your cause this month.Cool2Care support families with disabled children by providing personal assistants to take the children to community activities and provide respite to the parents. I work with Cool2Care Cambridgeshire and when I received an email this week quoting that on return from a fishing trip the 18 year old autistic lad told his mum “that was the best day of my life” it reiterated what a fantastic service this is.
Cool2Care was heavily funded by local councils this year, but next year………????
£250 would assist us in supporting more disabled children have the best day of their life.
    Please consider us.

  12. kippa says:

my vote goes to RSDR they came second place last month and deserve to win this month. plus they will share theyre winnings with animal rescue kos who both need the money xxx

  13. Joanne Davis says:

Nominations should go to Born Free for their involvement in the rehab of 2 bottle nose dolphins that were moved to the mountain resort of Hisaronu in Turkey. The pool that they were in was filthy and crumbling resorting in the health of these 2 boys being compromised
With the campaign on Facebook of over 22,000 people and the Dolphin angels the dolphins were moved to a sea pen ready for rehab. Born Free are funding this project and need every bit of money they can get. Some of the angels have been raising money for Misha and Tom but there is a long way to go as this is an expensive project.

    BORN FREE LIVE FREE.

  14. Jennifer Bremner who supports Volunteer Tutors Organisation Glasgow says:

Volunteer Tutors Organisation (Glasgow) provides free one to one educational support and guidance to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are currently supporting 150 families in the Greater Glasgow area. It costs approximately £333 to support one family for an entire year.
This one to one support in the childs home has been shown to increase confidence, improve school performance and encourage a positive attitude to school, improve communication and social skills, increase ambition and self belief and ultimately encourage development towards becoming responsible adults.
£250 would go a long way to providing support for one family for an entire year. Thank you.

  15. Irene Bowen who supports Liverpool City Sea Cadets says:

I would like to nominate the City of Liverpool Sea Cadets, they are trying to raise money to buy a new minibus to take them to competitions, and weekends away, they get help from no one so please vote for them

    • Irene Bowen who supports Liverpool City Sea Cadets says:

Hi could you please help the City of Liverpool Sea Cadet Unit to raise money for a mini bus, they get no help from anyone, the unit is in a deprived area of Liverpool and gives youngsters from the area aged between 10 – 18 a place to go and develop skills such as Duke of Edingburth Award, kayaking, pulling (rowing), they help out on ships visits and also attended Trafalgar Day Parade this year in London and helped open Liverpool City of Culture 2008, they need the minibus in order to attend competitions and to take them to various events
PLEASE, PLEASE, help them raise some money towards this mini bus

  16. SYLVIA GAUNT who supports Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research - Sylvia-Gaunt says:

LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH was started in 1960 by my parents after the death of my sister Susan Eastwood aged 6yrs to Leukaemia, which was then a death sentence. After starting this now National Charity I am proud to say that with no government funding just the great british public we have raised to date over £357 million pounds. This is constantly ploughed back into research into these dreadful blood cancers as there are 10 children alone EVERY week diagnosed but if Susan where alive today she would now have a 91% survival rate , Thanks to our research …We need £21 million pounds for committed research very year , so we will not stop until we have a cure for children and adults alike………….PLEASE SUPPORT US

    • Lesley Sweeting says:

Wish to support Sylvia Gaunt for her charity LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH to be Cause of the Month because of the fantastic work it does!

    • Julie White says:

A worth while fund raising activity. Sylvia has put her heart and soul into the LLR for many years and is still smiling.

      Good Luck and best wishes
      Julie

    • emma macdonald says:

Amazing charity that works to keep families together . Leukaemia used to be the death sentence for most children and adults, today this is not the case thanks to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research there are better treatments and excellent survival rates.

I support this charity 100% so please select them for this award I assure you that it would be well spent.

    • Nicole harris says:

I wish to support this worthwhile charity. Well done Sylvia! Carry on the good work,

      Nicole

    • Phil Harvey says:

We lost our son with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 1970. I also lost a brother with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Neither of them stood a chance. 5 years ago our grand daughter got Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She had her chemo at the same time as she took her masters finals at Loughborough University, she never spent a night in hospital, got a 2.1 and is now a lovely young lady with a very good job.
That’s what research into blood cancers has already done.
Sadly only about 56% of young men and boys with AML survive, so the work must go on until everyone can be cured

    • Dave Eastwood says:

We must continue to support LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH to ensure YOUR children, family and friends enjoy life longer than my lovely sister did aged 6yrs old when she was taken from us.A cure WILL be found and research which is so expensive MUST CONTINUE. Please continue to give as we do in Australia.

    • Bruce Scott says:

I’m a fundraiser for the LLR charity. The researchers are making great progress in the treatment of, and in time, the cure for Leukaemia and other blood cancers. The charity needs to raise funds though to keep the research efforts going. Well done Sylvia in your fundraising.

    • keith ledger says:

syliva gaunt is a lady of grait means, and its a grait shame she has to work so hard for this . I think the govenment should put there hands in there pocket and surport her instead of claiming for a new duck house!!!!!!!!. on there second house.

    • David Griffiths says:

      Sylvia
Wow! £357m raised in 50 years without any government funding.
You have got my vote for this worthwhile cause.
Happy Birthday (50yrs) LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH.
Keep up the good work and let’s all work together in finding a cure to beat blood cancers.
      Well done.

      Kind regards,
      David x

    • Sarah Osborne who supports Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research says:

I also fully support Sylvia and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. My best friend lost her younger brother to leukaemia. She donated bone marrow to him when they found she was a match but unfortunately he lost his battle. I’ve seen what losing a child, a brother and a friend can do to a family and the heartbreak it can cause and the more research that is funded, the better the prognosis and the fewer families that have to go through pain and suffering. Please help support Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research to help continue what Sylvia does and what her family started 50 years ago.

    • kris griffin says:

I have Leukaemia and without the amazing work people like Sylvia do it is hard to think what the future may hold.
      Go Sylvia!!!!!
      and thanks,
      Kris

    • daniel redhead says:

I have selected Sylvia because I support the charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma research. I lost a friend of mine to leukaemia earlier in the year and this charity offered help and support to the family. The charity raises money for research into the blood cancers and has dramatically increased the amount of people who survive leukaemia lymphoma and mylema . This charity makes dreams come true for people who suffer from a blood cancer. I have fund-raised for this charity and the work that they do is outstanding. I think that this would be a deserved cause for the charity.

    • Lucy Bradley says:

I have nominated leukaemia and lymphoma research because they offer lots of support for people who have or are at risk of having a blood cancer. This charity has raised the number of people that survive blood cancers and do incredible work. I think that they really deserve the money, it would go so far and could potentially save lives.

    • steph says:

I have nominated leukaemia and lymphoma research because they are a great charity. This charity has put money into research to cure people who have blood cancers. Over the 50 years that the charity has been running they have made such a difference I support this charity and I think that this would be an amazing charity for you to support too. I hope that you strongly concider them.

    • Chloe says:

I recently lost a friend I went to school with to Leukaemia – he was only 14. We need to eliminate blood cancer and fund research to help to prevent people young or old and so full of life being lost forever to diseases we do not yet have a cure for.
It’s a fantastic cause that gives hope the thousands diagnosed with these diseases, and that is why i wish to support it.

    • Em Goodhand says:

I’m writing to nominate this charity because of the simply amazing work it does. It’s such an important charity and we should do all we can to keep it going, in order to save the lives of many. Such a great charity, keep up the good work. x

    • Daniel Howroyd says:

    • Erika Burnett says:

My four year old son, Jack was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in July 2007. Fifty years ago he would have faced certain death. Thanks to the Eastman family Leukaemia Research was formed and today because of the money raised by Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research that is spent finding a cure for all Blood Cancers Jack is alive and well today and has beaten Blood Cancer – I can’t think of a better reason why Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research should be Charity of the Month. Help us find a cure for all Blood Cancers and give all children and Adults diagnosed with Leukaemia & Lymphoma the chance of survival.

    • Barry Thrower says:

Sylvia deserves much credit for all the work she does, a gong wouldn’t be out of place ( David Cameron please note ! ) so I for one am happy to support her ‘ cause of the month ‘ and let’s not forget all the years of good work.

My son James , who was treated for A. L. L. over 20 years ago is now almost 30 years old thanks to the skills of the staff at the RVI in Newcastle upon Tyne and the results of research which most probably wouldn’t have happened without the substantial funds raised by Leukaemia & Lymphona Research

    • Emma Squire says:

I wish to support Sylvia Gaunt for he rcharity LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH to be Cause of the Monthbecause it is a brilliant charity and the charity really needs and desearve it well done

I have selected Sylvia and Leukaemia & Lyphomia Research because it is a great charity. It helps to keep families going and is terific in the research they have been able to acheave since the foundation of the charity. Not only does it keep the family going, but can also help friends of the patient. This charity is most worthy to win the ‘Cause Of The Month’.

    • Martyn Byron Clegg says:

Sylvia, her family and friends have devoted 40 years of their lives to turn their deepest sadness at losing Susan into genuine hope for so many, A truly remarkable commitment to the quality of life for others.

    • Helen Tait says:

I support Sylvia, she has worked incredibly hard fundraising for the last 50 years. I was diagnosed with AML in 2007 and it is thanks to people like Sylvia and other fundraisers in LLR that I was able to receive fantastic treatment at the RVI in Newcastle. The researchers, coctors, nurses in Newcastle are brilliant. Iam still in remission and am eternally grateful to fundraisers and health professionals.
      Helen Tait

    • tony Jordan says:

My vote goes to sylvia Gaunt for her dedication to this charity which brings communities in Thirsk and the surrounding villages together for such fund raiisng events as a recent ‘gardeners question time’
      thank you

    • Cathy Gilman says:

Compared with some of the other charities nominated here, you may think this charity doesn’t need the money as much as the little ones, but Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is currently spending about £5 million more each year than it’s raising because there is so much good research at the moment that gives the possibility of new treatments and cures. This money will help to make sure possibilities become realities as soon as possible and we can improve survival for adults with blood cancers, which is sadly still only 35%.It’s so important that we keep families together.

    • Marion Black says:

I support this charity as I have been to the research centre in Newcastle and was impressed by the dedication of the researchers and have friends who have benefited from past research funded by this charity.

    • Colin Skelton says:

I wish to register my support for Sylvia Gaunt and her charity Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, Sylvia is continuing the amazing work of her parents who founded the fund after the tragic death of thier youngest daughter Susan.
Susan would have been my Aunt but due to this awful disease I never got to meet her.
However due to the advances in treatment that have been made possible by this charity many other lives have been saved, and many families spared the trauma that my parents and grandparents endured.

    • Laura says:

This charity is so determined and has done so much great work, and I’d love for them to get as much money and support as possible so they can continue all the amazing things they’ve done and more.

    • Beth G says:

I would like to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Research charity because of all the fantastic work it’s managed to do. Earlier in the year I, along with everyone at our school, lost a friend- he was only 14. This charity helped and supported his family throughout the process. Due to this charity, less and less people are dying of blood cancer, and hopefully one day blood cancer will be a thing of the past. Me and my school have raised over £2,000 pounds for this charity because it’s one close to home, and will always mean a lot to us all. I hope that the Leukemia and Lymphoma Research charity get the money, because they thoroughly deserve it, it would be money well spent.

    • Emily Crawford who supports Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research - Sylvia-Gaunt says:

LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH should be the cause of the month, it is a fantastic charity and has helped lots of family’s in the past and will be sure to help lots more in the future, selecting them for this award would be money very well spent.

it is so important to raise money for this charity, it is so close to my heart. My son James Neal died on may 9th this year aged just 14 from leukaemia. If it wasn’t for the fundraising that this charity does we would not have had James for the last 12 months of his life.

      • Rosalind Stewart says:

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research is an amazing charity, helping to save the lives of all patients, from babies the grandparents, diagnosed with blood cancer. You get my vote Sylvia! xx

Many of these dogs are abused, spat on, shot, kicked, beaten, or worse and in the cold winter months a lot of these dogs die. There is no animal welfare in Bulgaria and a lot of attitudes by local people are to treat them like vermin. They only have 2 months max to raise the money. Winter is coming, these dogs need to be taken off the streets as quickly as possible.

  18. Joanne Sexton who supports Hornchurch Animal Rescue And Rehoming says:

Please could you put Hornchurch Animal Rescue and Rehoming up for Decembers competition as Donna Evans who runs it has been working flat out to help unwanted animals and the rescue is in great need of funds due to ever increasing vet bills and kennel fees, just this small amount would help them out considerably. Donna works ever hard. Please vote for Hornchurch Animal rescue and Rehoming.

Please accept my nomination for our cause of the month for Equine rescue and rehoming is a a registered ‘Not For Profit’ organisation Number: 06908333

    This is their story…..

Once upon a time, in the Kingdom of Derbyshire, lived a girl called Rebecca Menz(Bex to her friends) and her lovely pony, Lola…except life isn’t a fairytale, and Lola was snatched away from Bex much too soon, and under tragic circumstances. Obviously, Bex was devastated at Lola’s loss, but after a while that yearning for a horse returned, and Bex knew that it was time to find another equine friend; Bex scanned the Internet, looking for a horse who was in need of a good home….and the rest, as they say, is history!

Bex was both amazed and dismayed to find out that thousands of healthy horses were being slaughtered for no good reason, and set about finding out more about this, concentrating on the main in practices in France; what she found out only galvanised her even more! The more Bex found out, the more determined she became to find a way to help these horses; the idea that horses were being treated as disposable commodities was abhorrent to her, and she had to find a way to help – hence the birth of Equine Rescue and Rehoming, almost four years ago. Bex quickly forged links with like-minded sites in France, and began to list horses in danger of needless slaughter from there. Very quickly, ERR built up a large member base, and imported many many horses from France. Of course, in the beginning there were hiccups, and it was certainly a steep learning curve, there was lots of resistance to what Bex was trying to do, but ERR, pushed along by Bex’ determination, continued to grow…and grow!

Improvements were constantly made, and with the help of a nationwide web of homecheckers, all horses were sure of a good home, and the adoption contract implemented this year means that once out of the slaughter queue, these lucky horses will never find themselves in the same situation again. In 2009 the global recession hit, the pound was weakened against the Euro and the price of fuel rocketed, people were losing their jobs and their livelihoods, and horses were amongst the animals which, perhaps inevitably, suffered as incomes were sliced. Towards the latter end of 2009, ERR started looking at equines a little closer to home – in Ireland. The economic downturn was felt much more acutely there, and as a result hundreds of equines were being thrown onto that metaphorical scrap heap – so much so that there was a waiting list at the slaughter houses (or ‘factories’ as they were known in Ireland). Once again, the thought of this was enough for Bex to take decisive action, and so the radar of ERR changed direction, and the steady flow of Irish and UK equines continues to date…

ERR .Rebecca Menz, the her team of volunteers and has helped so many of us to rehome the most amazing horses and it has provided support whenever and wherever it’s needed, and has made some very tough decisions along the way. As ERR has grown, and has branched out into new ventures, such as fostering and rehabilitating horses,.

On a personal note, if I hadn’t happened across ERR and been guided through the rescue process by I wouldn’t have my gorgeous Irish horse Glenn saved from the slaughter factory. I know that there are many, many who feel the same…ERR has rescued well in excess of 500 horses now, and even in these most difficult of times shows no sign of slowing down, Thank goodness!

Thank you so much for allowing Equine Rescue and Rehoming to be one of the nominee’s being considered for this award

This is a little film clip one of our re-homers made about the work we do. Please watch it. I think seeing just a small selection of just some of the 500 plus horses they have rescued will be so much more powerful than words.
      Thank You

I would also like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming. The work done by Rebecca and the team is truely amazing. They do their tireless work whilest holding down full time jobs. I personally would not have my beautiful ex-racehorse Schillachi, who was rescued from the slaughter factory and I also offer a foster home for the urgent cases. Without ERR I certainly would not be aware of many of these horses plights and many fit, healthy horses would not be here now giving the new owners the immense pleasure they do.
      Cathryn :)

    • BRENDA LONG who supports Willows Animal Sanctuary says:

What a fantastic job these girls do and all in their spare time, helping the horses so in need of a better life. If it wasnt for ERR then many of these horses would have faced a very grim future. I hope they win. They certainly deserve it!!

  20. Ellen Austin says:

RSDR is a truly deserving cause, and their close second place last month proves this! With a cold winter fast approaching, they desparately need to buy their shelter. Every little bit helps, so please help them!!

  21. Tina Smith who supports Wetnose Animal Aid says:

I would like to nominate Wetnose Animal Aid as they work tirelessly to help the animals of the smaller rescue / welfare centres here in the UK as well as abroad. Buying much needed equipment, helping with vet bills, food etc and on hand 24/7 with advice and support. Wetnose is committed to helping wild and domestic pets, any animal in need and they will try and help in whatever way they can.
    A very deserving cause.

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and rehoming. These guys do a fantastic job in rescuing horses from awful situations. I got the most fantastic horse from ireland thanks to them. There are so many horses and ponies that need help and these people do that out of their own pockets. I never realised just how much these horses needed until i got one myself.
£250 will help so many of the horses this winter so please spare a thought for them

  24. victoria hayes who supports Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR) says:

    http://www.dogstarfoundation.com
In Sri Lanka un-neutered and unvaccinated pet & street ( community ) dogs interact daily and this creates an ideal environment for the transmission of diseases and creation of unwanted pregnancies. A genuine fear of disease including Rabies meant street dogs and cats would often go their entire lives without any human contact , veterinary care, regular feeding or shelter.Unwanted puppies are often abandoned at Temples or the roadside adding to the problem further.
On a day-to-day basis Dogstar help animals by providing free treatments for injury and illness, Rabies & DHLP vaccinations and sterilisation of dogs and cats via our local vet, Dr. Prashashini and visiting overseas Volunteer Veterinary surgeons. In addition, we arrange regular clinics with a team from the University of Peradeniya for sterilisation/vaccination and treatment of skin conditions such as mange for owners who could otherwise not afford to have their dogs and cats attended to by a veterinary surgeon.
We provide treatment and feeding programmes for local street (stray) dogs and those who live within local Temples. We also aim to rehome pups that may be left at the Temples, whilst following up their medical needs (i.e. vaccination and sterilisation).
Emergency cases (e.g. road traffic accident victims) are taken directly to the University of Peradeniya’s Veterinary Sciences Department for assessment and any required surgery/treatment.
PLEASE PLEASE VOTE FOR US XX

  25. Jill Melia who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

I vote for Equine Rescue and Rehoming – even in the face of the current economic climate, horses continue to be rescued and rehomed under contract on a weekly basis…actions do speak louder than words, so please check ERR out for yourself… http://equinerescuerehoming.proboards.com

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming. They are a registered ‘Not For Profit’ organisation Number: 06908333

The staff at ERR work tirelessly to rescue perfectly good horses that were destined to be slaughtered (usually as a result of the economic downturn).

I have personally rescued a wonderful horse called Domino through the charity in January this year. I will be eternally grateful for them bringing Domino into my life. The work they do is amazing and they have turned around so many horses lives.

Here is a video of Domino’s rescue this year and he is just one of so many lucky horses to have been saved by ERR

  27. Jenny Sheppard who supports Tewkesbury Swimming Club says:

An Ode to The Unwanted Horse

Little Mumba sheds a tear for your body so sore
She remembers her time in a yard so bare
She waited with weary heart and aching bones
Feet inflamed and no-one to care

Time was short the world so cold
Would Rainbow Bridge be her place of peace
Her chance to rest her weary soul
Was it too late for a loving space

Now her scars are no more
Her coat glossy, her feet strong, eyes bright
A forever home with gentle hands
Mumba has her loving space as is her right

ERR horses should be strong of heart
Know a loving place where you will never be sold
Time to be the horse you should be
Bright eyes, happy heart and a joy to behold

    Love from Little Mumba –

Please fund raise for Equine Rescue and Rehoming and stop the needless slaughter of these healthy horses Thank you

  28. Debbie Tait who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

Hi, I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming (ERR).
These guys do a fantasic job of saving poor neglected horses and ponies from France and Ireland. Some of perfectly good horses, which are in field waiting for their time at the slaughter house.
I became aware and supported ERR a year or so ago and was already on the website looking and reading all about all the horses requiring rescued right through to their rehome and ongoing stories, which still continue. When my time came looking for a horse, my thoughts went straight to ERR and I found Dakota. The dedicated voluenteers guided me though the whole rescue process and arranged everything right through to Dakota arriving at my front door.
The work that they do is fabulous, from adoption to fostering.
Please vote for ERR, the £250 could go along way in bringing an unwanted useful horses into a loving home which it deserves.

Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride
Friendship without envy, beauty without vanity?
Here, where grace is laced with muscle,
    And strength by gentleness confined.
He serves without servility, he has fought without enmity,
There is nothing so powerful, nothing less violent,
There is nothing so quick, nothing more patient.
England’s past has been borne on his back.
    All our history is his industry;
We are his heirs, he is our inheritance.

  29. Joe Birt says:

I would like to nominate my wife daughter of Dorothy Patricia Leach http://www.patleach.info as a contender for cause of the month December. Since Feb 2009 she has worked relentlessley to raise awareness for her mothers condition GCA – Dorothy went blind overnight whilst visiting her great grandson and two weeks later her second was born. Vicky has been a main player in raising funds to get Dorothy to China for Stem cell Treatment – in the end she put in £8000 of her own money to get to china quicker. Dorothy is now back and has light perception and can see diffferent shapes sometimes. Without Vickys hard work Dorothy would not have had this chance. We are still raising money to pay for the treatment Vickys £8k was a interest free loan to the fund which I would like to get paid back to her asap. She has forgone all her holidays this year to travel with Dorothy and has put herself under so much stress that she is constantly tired now – but she still soldiers on

  30. Kerry Campbell who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

Hi, I would like to vote for Equine Rescue & Rehoming, these guys work very hard and are very committed to what they do, all have full time jobs but still manage to give up all the spare to help save these horses from slaughter, these horses are not old horses either, most come from Ireland where they currently experiencing a 3 month waiting list for the slaughter houses! In the meantime horses that have not made their owners/trainers money are simply bought by the meat man to be left in a field with nothing until they go to their deaths! We truly live in a throw away society these guys rescue as many as they can, bring them over to the UK and get them in foster homes until people like myself adopt them, they are desparately trying to raise money to buy their own horsebox which will allow for the money they have to spend on transporting the horses over from Ireland and France at moment to be used to help more horses! Please please vote for them they also have a fantastic policy if any adopted horse cannot be cared for by the person that has adopted the horse they will take it back and find it a forever home. I was lucky to find the most beautiful, gentlest, lovely young lady and at only 7 years old I am looking forward to spending many happy years together thank you Equine Rescue & Rehoming I could have never afforded to buy a horse of this quality if it was not for you! Best of luck Kx

  31. Debbie Peters says:

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming. They are doing a great job helping save horses from slaughter and getting them into loving forever homes. The buying, transporting and rehabilitation of these horses is not cheap so they definatly deserve to be cause of the month and it will help save another horse :)

  32. rachel riley says:

I would like to nominate equine rescue and rehoming for all there work. what a cause and what a star Bex is . keep up the good work you deserve to win .

  33. Alana says:

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue & Rehoming. They do an amazinng Job of rescueing Horses in terrible situations and giving them a new chance at life. They raise awareness about situations many of us are oblivious to. I dont feel animal charities get enough help and recognition and ERR Really deserve to be cause of the month. They show true dedication and work extremely hard.

  34. samm says:

Hi i would liek to nominate equine rescue and rehoming, as without them hundreds and thousands of horses would die through neglect, starvation and ill helath, they bring these poor horses back into good health and find them loving forever homes, without them, there would be a large number of equines who would die each year, they are a very worthy cause and deserve to win, please choose them, thank you x

  35. Stacey Green who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

Please accept my nomination for cause of the month for Equine rescue and rehoming. http://equinerescueandrehoming.webs.com/

The work they do is for perfectly good equines in threat of being slaughtered, rehab and fostering while finding them great forever homes is brilliant. They completely deserve to win this.

  36. Helen Williams says:

Equine Rescue and Rehoming need help. They do a wonderfull job and help so many horses like my fanta she came to me after a sad situation her owner died and she was left with nobody to take care of her, so equine rescue and rehoming jumped into action and i couldn’t be more pleased with her.

    PLEASE HELP THEM

  37. jenny says:

i would like to put equine rescue and rehoming for the prize. they are a very worthy non profit charity that speaks out for all equines that don’t have a voice of there own. many of which they have saved would otherwise of been slaughtered for no reason as these are gorgeous animals that deserve the chance to a loving home instead of feeding industries abroad. this prize money can really help to secure more horses from meeting a painful and disgraceful end. please support them.

  38. Michele Golding who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue & Rehoming for their outstanding contribution to equine welfare. They have saved well over 500 horses from slaughter, many of them the unwanted by products of the racing industry and are now helping more and more owners who are faced with having to try and sell their much loved pets due to the recession.

If ERR were to win Cause of the Month the £250 would be such a huge help to them enabling them to save more lives or to help with vet’s bills for some of the horses in foster homes in the UK.

  39. Lesley Barrett who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

This is a truly worthwhile cause, started and run by normal people just like you and me !
Horses of all ages and size are given a second chance at life with loving forever homes instead of the meat man!
words cannot express the change in these horses you MUST look at the before and after photos of these animals- they speak forthemselves.
Hundreds of horses have been saved -If only everything wasnt just about money,so many more could be helped. god bless to you all. x

  42. Richard Salmon who supports Bluebell Railway says:

The Bluebell Railway converted a railway carriage to carry parties of wheelchair-bound passengers 11 years ago, adding wider doors and electric lifts. The details of this carriage are in the link.
We are currently putting together a £70,000 package of grants to complete the conversion of a second such carriage, since the first one is so popular that we end up using it virtually all the time, and we need a second so that the first can receive some maintenance, and guarantee one of them will be available every day we are running trains (which is over 200 days a year).
The Bluebell Railway is a volunteer-run heritage railway, relying on a fleet of steam engines and historic carriages, to carry passengers through 10 miles of the Sussex Weald. It is a not-for-profit organisation, with 10,000 members in the Preservation Society which runs the railway, and also has a Charitable Trust associated with it, to assist with fund-raising. About 600 volunteers are involved in running the line.

  43. christina wark who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

I would like to nominate equine rescue rehoming for the award, the work they do is fantastic and this would show how much we appreciate what they do. without these people so many poor souls would not now have a happy life xx

  44. Olly Brownlie says:

I would like to nominate leukaemia and lymphoma research as Sylvia does such a marvellous job in the community and region. Sylvia puts a tremendous amount of energy and time into this wonderfull project and for her to win would be a great reward for the time and dedication she has put into the research over many years.

  45. Anita Marett says:

Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research saved my little boy’s life. Diagnosed with AML – Acute Myeloid Leukaemia aged 3. This is an uncommon type of Leukaemia and survival rates aren’t great…..however, due to the continued hard work of Sylvia Gaunt and her fantastic team, my son is still here with me today aged 8….a few years ago, he would have almost certainly died….This charity and all Sylvia and her teams hard work have saved many lives of children (and adults) that I have met along the way….and they have not only made a difference to our lives, but have saved so many. They truely deserve this award. My vote most definately goes to Sylvia Gaunt a very inspirational lady x

  46. pauline stevenson says:

I would like to nominate Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research as i have a colleague who lost his little girl to this terrible disease. Sylvia Gaunt is a marvellous ambassador who works tirelessly for this wonderful cause and she deserves recognition for the work &time she and her team selflessly devote to helping others

  47. Helen Fairhurst who supports Zoë's Place Baby Hospice says:

II would like to nominate Zoe’s Place Baby Hospices to receive the £250. Zoe’s Place run the only baby-specific hospices in the UK, providing respite and palliative care to babies and infants from birth to five years old who suffer from life-limiting conditions, terminal illnesses and complex special needs. I support Zoe’s Place because my nephew has used one of the hospices from being just six months old. Alfie was diagnosed with Aicardi-Goutieres Syndrome when he was born. Without Zoe’s Place, his family would not be able to cope with Alfie’s condition, and their 24-hour care responsibilities.

  48. Nelson Lorezca who supports Good Friends Forever says:

GFF’s primary goal is to provide financial support through scholarship grant for tertiary education to deserving but financially deprived students in the Philippines.
Of the hundreds that have applied and gone through our Screening Committee, to date, we have only managed to send 29 scholars due to fund limitation. Of these scholars, fourteen have already successfully graduated. Courses taken were on Accountancy, Engineering, Computer Science, Food Technology, Electrical Engineering, etc. Their financial budget is Php 47,749 per annum. This means one scholar would need approximately Php 200,000 to finish the entire four-year course. Our scholars are sent to a local university so we can closely monitor their academic progress and also to save on the board and lodging expenses.
For transparency, our group’s yearly financial audit is published in our website together with detailed information about our group. We need more donors so we can help more students change their life for the betters. Thank you for your time.

  49. graham burton who supports Inshore Search And Rescue Midlands says:

ryde inshore lifeboat station is independant they do not recive any funding from goverment or the RNLI.

All members of the ryde inshore lifeboat have to maintain the lifeboat by fundraising themselves and ranging thois activite to keep this serivce going for isle of wight

  50. Michaela White who supports Ryde Inshore Rescue says:

I would like to nominate Ryde Inshore Rescue, a lifeboat station that is not part of the RNLI but last year was busier than all the other lifeboats on the Island that we operate. Run by volunteers we don’t just save lives at sea we also hold endless talks and workshops for local youth and school groups to educate them in the dangers of the sea and promote safety on the Island that we operate. All the work, from saving lives to maintaining the vehicles and raising the funds to stay operational fall on the dedicated small team of members that make up our unit. In the past couple of years we have won many awards for our efforts including the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, however there were no financial rewards with these so we whilst our work is recognised we still struggle to remain afloat. We struggle to get any grants as we are not a charity set up for a specific cause, i.e Disabled/Children etc but as we stand we will support whoever needs us and educate whoever comes through our doors. Away from the lifeboat we regularly support other charities in their events providing free marshalling, first aid and emergency response to help other charities in our area keep their costs down as well. £250 would fuel our lifebooat, or buy protective equipment for one of our volunteer crew. Please remember we are not the RNLI we do not have a big bank balance or team of people supporting us, its just US the same people who do the rescues are also the ones doing everything else and they need the support to continue is this role

  51. Mary Waldron who supports Victim Support Witness Service Portsmouth says:

Please could we be considered for the cause for December, here at the Witness Service in Portsmouth and Fareham our team of volunteers do a fantastic job of looking after witnesses and victims who are called to court, including more vulnerable cases who require support both at home in getting them to court, and at the court.
We provide a free but essential service to anyone who is called to court. We only receive part funding from the Government and need to find the shortfall as voluntary contributions. As a charity we`re totally commited to our cause, the welfare of all victims and witnesses is paramount.

  52. Harry Naef who supports Lifesigns Kenya Appeal - Harry Naef says:

    Thankyou

  53. Sandy Tipton who supports Cornwall & South Devon Boxer Rescue says:

Could you please consider a Boxer Dog rescue based in Cornwall & South Devon. We have 5 trustees, 2 of which do a heck of a lot all on their own. Support is slow and we urgently need funds to support the soon to come Christmas Dog Drop coming our way. Each year we get lots of older boxer dogs being overlooked and rehomed through no fault of their own. Please this would mean a lot to our rescue and go a long long way….£250 is like a thousand to us such a large amount.. We care cos no one else will….

  54. jeremy armstrong says:

I would like to nominate Sylvia Gaunt, of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, for cause of the month, the work done by her and her family over more than half a century is truly inspirational.

  57. Lisa Hughes says:

Vote for Sylvia Gaunt and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
Sylvia is a superstar going beyond showing great courage and tenacity in her own fundraising, she drove some 80 miles to support me in my first fundraising experience. No activity to big or small.

I’m sure Sylvia will put this donation to some innovative fundraising use. Her energy is endless!! My very best wishes Sylvia, Lisa

  58. Hazel Staten who supports Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research says:

Never underestimate the power of ‘ordinary people’. 50 years ago the diagnosis of leukaemia or any of the blood cancers was a death sentence. When Hilda & Dave Eastwood heard that nothing could be done to save their 6 year old daughter Susan they vowed to help find a cure for these devastating diseases. Their fundraising efforts helped to pay for the first dedicated laboratory to research leukaemia and its causes in Great Ormond Street. The charity they started has grown into Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. The only U.K. charity dedicated to funding research into all the blood cancers; leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Lives are being saved, but too many people are still hearing the words “nothing can be done”. This charity relies totally on voluntary donations to carry on the vital work. Fundraising is usually such hard work. Surely it deserves the support from easyfundraising this time?

  59. Lyn Kirkbright who supports Newport Pagnell United Reformed Church says:

Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is such a worthwhile cause and certainly deserves all the extra support available. My good friend Hazel works so hard for this charity and all her friends back her with this.

  60. Jemma Cowley who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming, for the amzing work which they do.
I came across thier website at the beginning of this year – more my accident if anything, and i have never looked back. Rebecca is the founder of ERR and without her dedication and the work of her team then the hundreds of horses now safe would have faced a very uncertain future. I personally would like to thank Rebecca and her team for bringing my rescue horse into my life. These guts really make the horses thier lifes – they work tirelessly, travelling over to Ireland to view horses in need, Arranging homechecks, Arranging transport, Foster caring and then they provide a brillient support network for all of us owners who have taken on a rescue.

I really believe that ERR are more than worthy winners.

  61. Kevin Snr O'Rourke says:

Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is such a good cause and certainly deserves all the support available. My good friend Hazel works so hard for this charity and all her friends back her with this. Especially the work the volunteers put in for this cause , which receives no Government funding of any kind and relies on the generosity of ordinary people.
    Kevin

  62. Jonathan Fant who supports Ferndale Skate Park says:

Please can you put Ferndale Skate Park up for nominations for cause of the month.

We work in the ex mining community to try and provide hope to the young people who have suffered extreme cases of Apathy and hopelessness. There is nothing that really goes for the area. It is severly socially deprived.

Ferndale Skate Park was setup to give young people a place to go. To try and keep them away from the dangers of wandering the street and being introduced to alchol and drugs.

    Please vote for us.

  63. Graham Ball says:

I support the work of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research because the people engaged with the charity are commited, hard working and their efforts will benefit so many people in the years to come.

  64. Michele Samm-Griffiths says:

I support the work of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research wholeheartedly. Fifty years ago the diagnosis of leukaemia and other blood cancers was a death sentence. Thanks to the tireless work of this charity and the dedication of their research scientists many more people survive today. However, there are still far too many people dying from blood cancers. The most vulnerable group is teenagers and young adults. More young people die from leukaemia than from any other illness. My son Edward was diagnosed with leukaemia on his sixteenth birthday and he died before he reached eighteen. Two other teenage boys were being treated at the same time as Edd in hospital and they died too. The disease is aggressive and the treatment gruelling and so much more work needs to be done to prevent more young and needless deaths.

  65. Helen Anderson says:

Leukaemia and Lymphona Research is a wonderful cause and through its work we are moving towards defeating this dreadful disease. People work raising money tirelessly, some of them past sufferers themselves. Please give them your support.

  66. michelle tomkins who supports Chelsea's Angels says:

I would like to nominate Chelsea’s Angels, a charity that helps children with Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer that has no cure in the UK. Their families seek treatments in other countries that offer a 70% survival rate rather than the 20% offered here.
They have to raise in excess of £250,000 to fund the treatments as the NHS very rarely fund them. The charity was set up in memory of a little girl, aged 3 when she lost her battle. The family of Chelsea know the struggle, heartache and stress that come with this disease.
Chelsea’s Angels provides gifts for children diagnosed with this disease and other rare cancers, or day trips, help with holiday costs. This is for all the family as everyone is affected by the diagnosis. We also offer financial assistance for treatments, medical equipment that the NHS don’t fund or help with household bills.
This would help a child smile with their gift, or day trip and also make an angel is heaven smile too that her last wish for poorly children to be helped is being made possible.
    Thank you

  67. Lynsay Mulcahy who supports Parents Education as Autism Therapists says:

PEAT (Parents’ Education as Autism Therapists) is a small Northern Ireland charity working tirelessley to provide practical behaviour support, using evidence based practice, to parents/carers of children with autism. PEAT does not receive support from health or education and is therefore working with limited resources. Autism services in Northern Ireland are very scarce. PEAT is the only charity in Northern Ireland providing this service available to all families, that would otherwise have no access to any sort of pracitcal support. The aim of PEAT is to provide a better quality of life for individuals with autism and their families. PEAT is reliant on the generosity of others to deliver our services to families facing autism. All monies raised for PEAT go directly into providing services and therefore a £250 donation would be gladly welcomed especially in this tough economic climate.

Autism does not only affect the diangosed child, but affects the family as a whole. Families living with autism often have to cope with difficulties at home. They may not be able to do things other families take for granted, as even a trip to the shopping centre can be difficult when challenging behaviours arise. It is difficult for families to get babysitters, as many people are not able to or do not want to cope with a child with autism. Siblings may suffer from reduced parental attention due to the demands of the child with autism and siblings may also suffer from the increased stress places on parents dealing with autism. Autism may cause extreme parental and carer stress due to lack of sleep, lack of toileting skills, persistent worry about their child and their future, financial loss as often one parent remains at home as the main carer, anxiety and distress caused by challenging and inappropriate behaviours as well as possibly even damage to home and contents.

  68. Emily says:

Please vote for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and help us beat blood cancers. It’s a fantastic charity which invests in only the best research for patients.
Your an inspiration to us all Sylvia
    Best wishes x

  69. Jenny says:

Pleas vote for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. It is a terrific charity which constantly researches into ways to help beat this terrible disease.

TO have raised money for 50 years to try and find cures for Leukaemia & Lymphoma is a fantastic achievement.

  74. Tom & Annie says:

Keep up the good work for LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH Sylvia.

  75. michele says:

animal rescue kos are wonderful at helping animals. they are looking for a new site so that they can help even more stray and abused animals, this money would help towards that and would be much appreciated. it is much needed too!

  76. Karen Lysons Hatzidimitriou who supports The Ark Animal Rescue says:

I would like to put forward the ARK in Kos. In the last 6 months they have re-homed 101 dogs,7 cats – all sterilised and had treated 5 injured cats, 2 injured dogs and about 16 other sterilisations. This is an amazing amount of work in such a short time and they need all the help they can get.

  77. hamid says:

I would like to say a big thank you to leukaemia &lymphoma research for its hard work. We will do our best to support it to beat all kind of blood cancer.

  78. mandana says:

Sometimes words are to small but the sentimen is huge. All I can say is just:
    “Thank you very much”
    to Sylvia and her family
    to Leukaemia and lymphoma research
    to Hazel
    and…
    for their hard work.

  79. marianna foulger who supports Animal Rescue Kos says:

My vote is for animal rescue kos. I was on holiday in Kos this year, and found a starving cat, ridden with fleas, cat flu and on the brink of death. This cat followed me around for the two weeks i was on holiday, he would be waiting outside my apartment day and night. I knew that if i left him he would be dead i weeks. On my second to last day of hols i took the cat to the vets, he needed medication and somewhere to rest. I begged all my friends who live in Kos to take him in, but no one was willing to help. Then a friend gave me the number of Susan Mcgrane the president of animal rescue Kos. Susan came to collect the cat straight away, she took the cat in and nursed him back to recovery. He is now happy, healthy and has a forever home thanks to ark. On my return visits to Kos i go and see Mac, he is a happy healthy loving cat. Without the help of Susan and Ark this young cat would be a skeleton lying on the roadside. She showed care and concern when others were not willing to help. And this is why i urge you all to vote for ark

  80. Philippa Hughes-Narborough who supports World Challenge Ecuador 2012 - Philippa Hughes-Narborough says:

I am currently trying to raise money for a World Challenge expedition to Ecuador. We will spend 3 weeks helping with in local communities, teaching or leaving something more substantial like painting classrooms etc. We hope to take out some educational materials for the locals and hopefully leave them with some fantastic memories as well as bringing back our own. Whilst out there we plan on climbing one of Ecuadors many volcanoes and trekking through the amazon rainforest. Please help us get there!
    Thank you.
    World Challenge Ecuador 2012 – Philippa Hughes-Narborough

  81. Alison Jones says:

I would like the money to go to Sylvia Gaunt and the Leukaemia Reserach Fund. I am a survivor – and without people like Sylvia I would definitely not be here today. Sylvia does such a fantastic job. Good luck!

  82. Kasia Martin says:

I would like to nominate Equine Rescue and Rehoming for the amazing work they are doing for innocent unwanted horses who face the very real threat of being slaughtered. They dedicate their time to rehab and fostering while finding them great forever homes They absolutely deserve to win this.

  83. fiona mccabe who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

I would like to vote for Equine Rescue and Rehoming, the work they do is amazing , such dedicated people without them countless beautiful healthy horses would be slaughtered.

  84. Beverley Cuddy says:

Please consider Tailwaggers Club Trust. It’s a tiny ancient charity that helps pet owners in distress and being small it’s able to be very personal and flexible and treat each case on its merits rather than have firm rules that restrict who can be helped and how. For example our current case is a lovely pensioner who has had so much sadness in her life. Her husband had terminal cancer and it was his dying wish that he found her a dog to keep her company and cheer her up when he was gone. Sadly the poor little dog fell ill immediately after he was castrated – going off his legs. Nearly £2k of tests followed with no clear diagnosis. The dog got even sicker after his booster and the bill is now over £4k. She’s cashed in her ISA and is trying to remove equity from her home to meet the bills. A diagnosis is no further on. Tailwaggers has been a shoulder to this lady and we have quickly set up an appeal to try to raise some funds meet her bills. This lady’s dog means the world to her and Tailwaggers understands and is often the only charity to help in these cases.

  85. Alison Smith who supports Animal Rescue Kos says:

My nomination goes to Animal Rescue Kos. Their tireless work is absolutely vital to the starving, injured and abused animals on the island. They desperately need funds to buy not only food and medication but also to build a permanent shelter. Thank goodness they care, because the Greek authorities just don’t.

  86. John Greenwood says:

I would like to nominate Animal Rescue Kos. I was in Kos recently and my heart went out to the pityful state that some animals are forced to endure on the island. It is good that Animal Rescue Kos is there to do what they can for some of the happiest friendliest bright little spirits that I meet there. The government and authorities seem to be very uncarring and should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this appauling abuse to happen. Absolutely shocking and a big thumbs down to Greece and Kos, but a big thumbs up to Animal Rescue Kos for their sterling work it is much appreciated and very much needed.

  87. Vanessa Hughes says:

As a member of a local fundraising branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research I would like to send my support for Sylvia. It is so important in these difficult economic times that money for research continues to be made available. Our recent visit to Newcastle University for the launch of the ‘Centre of Excellence’ highlighted the
fantastic work that is being carried out.

  88. Tania davies says:

I would like to put forward ERR. The work these individuals carry out is simply amazing. Because of ERR I have found a wonderful horse named cleo who is part of our family, without their help she like hundreds of others would have gone to slaughter. These people work very hard, they also hold down full time jobs as well as looking after their own families. For every horse that has been adopted or fostered, ERR is also available day or night with advice and support. These people are indeed priceless x

  89. Christine Bunton says:

Please consider equine rescue & rehoming who do an amazing job saving horses from needless slaughter. These poor animals suffer untold trauma & often starvation while awaiting their fate mainly because their owners cannot or will not care for them or rehome them. Thanks to ERR’s tireless efforts, many horses have been saved & found new homes but there are still far too many who need their help.

  90. Steven Hodgson says:

I would like to nominate LEUKAEMIA & LYMPHOMA RESEARCH. Sylvia Gaunt has done a great job with a very worthwhile charity and deserves our support. I lost my uncle to Leukaemia 10 years ago and therefore I appreciate all efforts to fight this disease.

  91. Gill Dixon says:

My son Matthew was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 3. He underwent 3 gruelling years of chemotherapy and, I’m happy to say, is now a healthy 8 year old. Full of mischief and character thanks to the advanced treatment available. This is due to the fantastic work of the charity ‘Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research’. 50 years ago Matthew, and so many children like him, would not have survived this disease. Now 85% of children do. We need to continue supporting this fantastic charity to give all children the very best chance :-)

  92. Deborah Dixon says:

I would like to nominate Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Lost my much loved mother to lymphoma & my wonderful nephew had leukaemia, Please support this charity x

  93. Nicky Giles says:

We would like to totally irradicate leukaemia & lymphoma and by raising money for research we can move a step closer.

  94. Lynne Crawford who supports Equine Rescue and Rehoming says:

These are a fantastic group of people that really do work tirelessly to help distressed and unwanted horses, ponies and donkeys. Every animal is given an equal chance of a forever homeand they spend a significant amount of their own time and money in helping to rehabilitate discarded racehorses. They are always there to offer support and advice. Really unsung heros as they are always upbeat and encouraging despite some of the dreadful sights they encounter. A very small organisation, their charges would benefit tremendously if they won causse of the month.

  95. Sue Dunford who supports Animal Rescue Kos says:

I would like to nominate Animal Rescue Kos (the Ark) as they are doing an amazing job trying to help all the un-wanted animals on the island, i was fortunate enough to rescue a beautiful British Bull dog from them named Aurora, she is just the best dog ever! Sue and the crew work endlessly to look after all these stray animals and have now found a suitable plot to build a shelter so they can take in more strays, they now need the funds to buy the plot and build the shelter, i think they deserve to win again as they shared the winnings last time with another charity, this is a great charity and they need all the help they can, please nominate them

  96. Shaun Dunford says:

I nominate ARK because of all the work they do with stray animals on the Island.

  97. IOANNA CHINOFOTI who supports Animal Rescue Kos says:

I vote for Animal Rescue Kos. Their act of kindness,to split Novembers prize with RSDR who came in in second place, shows what wonderful kind of people they are. Lets help them built their shelter!

  98. Maria Katra who supports Animal Rescue Kos says:

I would like to vote for Animal rescue Kos once more, because they really need to raise money so they can buy a piece of land to keep the animals on, and later build a sanctuary for all the animals of Kos that desperately need their help!

  99. Lavinia Stephenson says:

I would like to nominate Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, it is such a worthwhile cause and definately deserves all the help available. It is so important that money for research continues to give all children the very best chance. Please support this charity.

  100. Martin Moyse who supports Rhyl Silver Band says:

I would like to nominate Rhyl Silver Band for charity of the Month because as a small local unfunded band with charitable status the band does a lot of work with young people in a poor area providing free musical instruments and free tuition as well as a warm and safe environment to learn and play music in. The band offers one on one tuition, a beginers (intermediate) band, a training band and a full competing silver band. The band also provides free loan instruments for senior players who pay a small annual membership fee. The band is currently in the fourth section and is looking forward to entertaining the community while it is our playing christmas carols localy.
The band relies on donations and membership fees to carry on with its work. The band room itself is in need of some work and funds are short to enable this therefore I would like to nominate Rhyl SIlver Band for next months cause of the month.

  101. Kelly Brunt who supports Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis Service says:

I would like to vote for PARCS (Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis Service) as we are trying to raise money to be able to offer FREE over the phone or over the internet counselling to men and women from the age of 13 who have had any unwanted sexual experience no matter how long ago it was. This would be great help as then we can offer counselling to young people who cannot get to our building and also disabled people who without this may not be able to get any help.

  102. Heather Graham says:

I vote for the Leukaemia and Lymphona Research group to receive this money as this is a very worthwhile charity – a matter of life and death!

  103. Andrea Cochrane says:

Please nominate PEAT as your cauise for the month. They are an organisation to help families with autism. There is very little state help for this condition and PEAT do an amazing job. They provide advice and training and without them my son would not have made the huge progress he has. PEAT is a lifelien to families like ours.

  104. Judy Blythe who supports Animals Asia Foundation says:

So many fantastically worthwhile causes have been nominated- how can anyone not feel the compassion for lymphoma and leukaemia sufferers and survivors? But if you have a bit of space left to feel compassion for bears incarcerated in coffin sized cages just so that their bile can be cruelly removed by repeated stabbing into their abdomen, please consider Animals Asia’s work to stop this barbaric practice. Animals Asia is working tirelessly with the Chinese Authorities to get these bears released into the safety of sanctuaries in China and Vietnam. Visit their website to see the fantastic work they do- http://www.animalsasia.org

  105. Rachel says:

Please support Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. My beautiful next door neighbour’s grandson has just fought Lymphoma and a close friend’s wonderful son has just fought Leukaemia. Leukaemia and Lymphoma affects many people’s lives and without this vital research there wouldn’t be success stories like the two aforementioned.

  106. marion mitchell who supports Unique Rare Chromosome Disorder Support Group says:

Please can I nominate Unique, rare chromosome disorder suport group.
It is a fantastic organisation which has been of enormous support to me and many other families whose children have an RCD.
Most people have never heard of a rare chromosome disorder, individually they are rare, but collectively they are numerous.
Please visit: http://www.rarechromo.org to read all about the great work that they are doing
    Thank you

I would like to nominate,BORDERS ADDITIONAL NEEDS GROUP. A support Group based in teh Scottish Borders to help and support parents and families who have children with rare and complex needs even children with no diagnoses, no family is ever turned away. We hold monthly meetings where we meet up to chat and have special needs play provisions and nursery nurses who interact with the children and also free music therapy, which we fundraise for, so the parents can sit and chat and help each other in difficult times. we also fundraise for two yearly outings and our christmas party, which the group pays for, no parent is asked for money and all the family is welcome.

  110. Rebecca Goodson who supports 4th Hinckley (St Mary's) Scout Group says:

We are presently trying to raise funds fir 4th Hinckley scout Hut renovations. We have no hot water , only 1 outside toilet and limited old fashioned non economical and ineffective heaters. Our scout hut is a drafty wooden builing that is over 85 years old we desperately needs funds to make some basic improvements so the youth and adult members are more comfortable in the hut. We presently have just over 60 memers but most of our fund raising efforts have gone to much needed camping equipment as we attend around 10 camping events a year. We offer places to both girls and boys from aged 5 3/4 yes to 25yrs and of course adult volunteers. We offer places regardless of ethnic background or ability and are becoming a popular group with a very busy programme of events. We desperately need to improve our building and any donations are most greatfully received by both the youth members and the adults. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Yours in Scouting Rebecca Goodson Group Scout Leader.

  111. Fran Littler who supports The Salvation Army Clevedon Corps says:

it would go towards The Salvation Army (Clevedon) building fund. we need a new building as ours is old (over 100 years!) and is no longer fit for the purposes of our Community programmes.

Clevedon Corps: at the heart of the community with the community at its heart

  112. mark dean says:

I would like to nominate MAGPAS LIFESAVERS as earlier this year january 8th
my children had to sit and watch thier mum die in hospital on march 17th i had a horrendous motorcycle accident in which i should of died too magpas saved my daughter from having to watch me die too they are the best

  113. Margie Cook who supports People's Theatre says:

I would like to nominate The People’s Theatre for cause of December. Which would be extremely fitting for the end of it’s centenary year. While many may think it’s not a cause that changes lives, I truly believe it can and it does; it certainly has changed mine.  Ok, so it’s not fighting a disease , or providing help to sick and vulnerable people, and because of which receives very little in way of charitable donations.
As a theatre fully staffed by it’s own members from front of house to on stage and backstage, it creates a wonderful atmosphere of a community theatre capable of big things. It’s a theatre for anyone to join and in such a way that no one person is more important than another, everyone’s skills and talents are greatly appreciated. More importantly it’s a place, to learn new things, provide relief from a stressful job or simply come to meet people from a completely different walk of life to yourself.
It is a charity that receives no government or help from anyone but it’s members and is in great need in order for it to survive in the same capacity for the next a hundred years. Please help by Voting for The People’s Theatre as the charity of December and come experience the place for yourselves.

  114. Sharon Foulds who supports Birdline UK Parrot Rescue says:

I would like to nominate Birdline UK Parrot Rescue of which i am a member. Birdline is run completely by volunteers and is spread across the whole of the UK.
Many people will buy a larger parrot on a whim without fully realizing the commitment required. The larger parrots especially are like young children and need the same attention and commitment as one would give a child. They are highly intelligent creatures and have an average life span of 60 to 80 years. When they don’t get the correct care, problems will arise and a lot of these birds will self mutilate their skin, they will rip out their feathers, chew their own feet and become severely depressed.
Birdline take in the unwanted, sick, neglected and disabled parrots from budgies to Macaws and depend entirely on donations. When a bird is handed over it remains within Birdline for the rest of its natural life, and will be fostered to an ideal home who must remain a member of the charity.
A lot of the birds that come in to the charity are in a terrible state, from holes chewed in their bodies through stress, broken bones, vitamin deficiencies, fear of humans .. the list is endless. None of them are turned away and Birdline pay out hundreds of pounds on vets bills each year to help these birds so that they can have a more comfortable life.
People tend to view animal rescues as mainly for Dogs & Cats
but there are many parrots out there that are neglected, ill treated or unwanted and Birdline is one of the few charities who help these wonderful creatures find a safe place in this world

  115. nicola welsh who supports St Luke's Hospice Plymouth says:

I would like to nominate St Lukes Hospice in Plymouth without their support, understanding and care that i recieved while my husband was staying there i really dont think i would have got through the whole thing. My husband was diagnoised with cancer in April and was given three months to live in that time we tried to do as much as possible even doing a zip line over a quarry,we had alot of laughs, alot of tears but St lukes were always there, from Carol who phoned and visited to the nurses who were only a phone call away 24/7,and to the nurses that work in the hospice who are so loving and have a lovely manner i really dont know how they do the job and see all the pain that cancer causes. They really go that extra mile for people weather its a smile, a cuddle when your low, or just someone to talk too who understand what everyone is feeling and do there job with compassion and give their patients as much support as possible right up till the end of their days.
I hope they find a cure for any cancer as my husband lost his fight in August aged 53 to young to be taken he leaves children and grandchildren one he will never meet but who will know him.I would like to give St lukes as much support as one can as i hope that they carry on with the good work they do

  116. cath horton who supports Thrive Cardiff says:

Thrive (Cardiff) is a self funded registered charity run entirely by parent volunteers of children with special needs. Our aim is to offer our very special children, their siblings and families a protective arena where they can play in an exclusive, non-judgemental and supportive environment without prejudice.

All children, including disabled children, have the right to play, have fun and take part in recreational activities. Play has a very important role in a child’s development, helping to develop speech, sensory skills, imagination, independence and perhaps most importantly for our children, social skills. Sadly not all children are given this chance simply because they look or act differently, but Thrive is committed to providing children with special needs these same opportunities.

Without Thrive our children would not have the chance to play and develop as lack of public awareness and understanding prevents them from accessing mainstream recreational activities. We do our very best to ensure that our children don’t miss out on the things that other children perhaps take for granted.

  117. Lynne Smith who supports Richard Alibon Primary School - Dagenham says:

Richard Alibon Primary School is raising money to buy new readering books for our SEN pupils. Would would truely welcome your support.

  118. Helen Henderson who supports New Dawn Children's House Nepal says:

New Dawn Children’s house is a family orientated home for orphans in Nepal. Since we opened in 2009 we have helped eleven children to become confident, healthy, happy children.
Raising funds as you know is not easy, but we try our best to provide a good education, a nutritious diet and a feeling of well being.
For me it is equally important that all “my children” feel safe and secure and know how much they are loved.
We need to raise £10.000 a year to continue providing this much needed house in Pokhara, Nepal.
I wish you could see the difference in these children since we rescued them from the streets and mountain areas of Nepal, to see their smiling faces is heart stopping and so rewarding.
At this time of year, we all think of Chrismas and children.. so please consider making a difference to the lives of New Dawn Children, £250.00 is an huge ammount of money for us. What a wonderful Chrostmas gift!!

  119. Anne-Marie Walker who supports Ashley Educational Trust Ltd says:

I would like to nominate Ashley Educational Trust. In 2009 AET’s university residence, Coniston Hall, was refurbished to comply with health and safety and ensure that it would remain open. This cost £2m and there were no grants or available money to pay for it. It was paid with loans and these have to be paid back as soon as possible. I started fundraising by joining this website which has been the by far the most constant, successful and ideal fundraiser. I did my best to spread the word and to date we have 27 supporters and have raised £400 to date.

Furthermore, AET continues to run its social projects both locally and abroad. When Monkole Hospital in Kinshasa asked for £2m to build a mother and baby unit in 2009, AET started raising funds for this project too. AET has been actively changing women’s lives locally and abroad since 1978 and one thing you can be sure of is that if you give AET any money, they will put it to the very best use possible and make a difference today.

  120. Colleen Clarke who supports World Challenge Uganda Expedition 2013 - Jenny Euesden says:

I am part of a school group in Sheffield who are fundraising for an expedition to Uganda, where we will work at a school in a small village.
We are raising funds to cover the cost of the expedition, which is £3200 plus other costs like jabs and kit. My school have visited this community school several times in the past and I feel that it is a worthwhile cause to support as it is ongoing work that the local Ugandans benefit from. We will be living in the village and working with the children and helping with some building work. Our school have raised funds to buy land for the school and materials for building work. It is a big project. There is not much spare money around in Sheffield at present so my fundraising is struggling a bit.
As this is such a good cause, I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Jenny
