This week’s guest blog comes from easyfundraising member Dawn Green.
“My name is Dawn Green and I would like to share with you how being diagnosed with an incurable cancer has changed my life in more ways than one.
In Feb 2008 I was diagnosed with a rare form of appendix cancer and given just three months to live. The doctors explained that this was not a common cancer, in fact it was an extremely rare cancer affecting approximately one in a million people.
One in a million -how on earth had that happened? With odds like that I would have much preferred a lottery win.

Happy New Year! It’s 2012 and we’re thinking about new year resolutions – making them and trying not to break them. A quick poll in the office found that most of the easyfundraising team are resolving to eat more healthily, exercise more and give up our vices (errr, not that we have many of course!)

We’re delighted to bring you a guest blog from easyfundraising member Carolyn Sainsbury on her experiences as a new volunteer for the Samaritans.
Stepping into volunteering
“Just like everyone else around Christmas and New Year, I found myself looking at the year behind me and the year ahead and what I have achieved. Normally it’s a time when I find myself wishing that I could say something positive, that I had done something to change my life. This January, I find myself feeling very positive and slightly proud of myself (an unusual state of affairs in many ways) because 2011 was a big year for me in terms of personal achievements.
“For a long time I had wanted to volunteer for a charity, and in particular Samaritans, but a parade of self doubts, and a worry that I wasn’t emotionally strong enough, meant that I always put it to the back of my mind. That is until my sister found some information about an open evening, and said she was interested. Before I knew it, not only had I attended the open evening, but I had gone through selection, at each stage believing that at some point they would say thanks, but no thanks. And yet somehow, despite my doubts, I was offered a place on the training course.

Our last blog post of 2012 is about one of our partner retailers who goes the extra mile to make a difference to disadvantaged children. We thought it was an appropriate end to the easyfundraising year to tell you about White Stuff and its great work for good causes.
The mission of the White Stuff Foundation is to make the world a little happier by helping disadvantaged children and young people within our local communities.
They do this in a number of ways – each White Stuff shop, plus the head office and distribution centre are all partnered with their own local charity and they raise money for it in a variety of ways, from fun and unusual fundraising events to match funding. The Foundation gives regular grants to these charities – at least 1% of the company’s annual profit is given over to The Foundation to make this happen.
Putting the fun into fundraising
White Stuff are always coming up with fun ways to raise more – in Autumn 2009, a nationwide window campaign ‘Give a Gnome a Home’ saw thousands of customers adopt a gnome and the scheme raised over £30,000 for local charities. And who could forget ‘wear a tea cosy on your head day‘ which saw easyfundraising members getting into the spirit to win a £50 donation for their cause!
The charities supported range from childhood cancer research and care to medical equipment for new borns and many others, with 80 charities across the UK, two in Denmark and two in India benefiting from the support of The Foundation.
And all of our registered causes can benefit from a 2.5% donation when their supporters shop with White Stuff through easyfundraising – so that’s a whole lot more that White Stuff do for good causes.
It’s a big Christmas thumbs up to White Stuff from us – we think you’re doing a great thing!
