RAFT is a registered charity pionneering medical research into improved treatment for burns, wounds and other skin traumas including skin.
RAFT is working on another innovative project – a skin replacement that could provide an improved solution to the life threatening problem of burns, chronic ulcers and wounds. Victims of major burns urgently require life-saving skin cover; those with smaller wounds, especially patients with chronic non-healing wounds, also present a serious clinical challenge. Even with successful treatment, any injuries involving full-thickness skin loss will leave lifelong defects.
RAFT’s Group Leader Dr Julian Dye is working with his team to develop an artificial skin material that will not only treat the wound in the short-term but also allow more extensive wounds to be treated than ever before.
