‘Ruff’ night for fundraiser Jenni

Jenni’s kennel for the night and it’s current occupant

easyfundraiser Jenni Fryer is literally in the dog house tonight as she takes part in a sponsored kennel sleep in.

Jenni is one of six greyhound owners joining Daybreaks Kennels manager Ruth Boswell and husband Rob sleeping in the kennels for six nights, starting on Monday June 25th.

Daybreaks Kennels is the home of easyfundraising cause Perry Barr Retired Greyhound Trust and rehomes retired racing greyhounds from Perry Barr Stadium.

The sponsored sleep in will finish on Saturday with an open day and barbecue to celebrate Daybreaks sixth birthday, which will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, who is also a greyhound owner.

Organiser Ruth Boswell is hoping that the mammoth snooze will raise the £6,000 needed to refurbish the kennels, making them as comfortable as possible for the hundreds of dogs which pass through the kennels every year.

“We are constantly looking at how we can improve the kennels for the dogs to make their transition from a racing dog into a sofa loving family pet as easy as possible,” she said.

“In the six years since we’ve been open we have rehomed 1,500 dogs – some of whom are with us for hours, others for months.

“All of them want to hang up their racing colours to join a family in a home and as many greyhound owners will agree, they do become a fabulous part of the family.”
