Who do you love enough to share this great prize with?

Edith Kinghorn is the winner of our Thorntons hamper competition with this entry: “I would share this with the Brendoncare Wednesday group for older people in Gosport. One of the members (a lovely man called Val – short for Valentine) has his 90th birthday on Valentine day and celebrations are the order of the day. These chocolates would definitely be the icing on the cake for everyone.”

Edith said: “I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to hear this news. The Brendoncare Wednesday group (and Val in particular) will be thrilled when I tell them. Thank you so much a million times. Best wishes to you all (and happy Valentines Day)”

  1. Jo Bayley says:

Firstly I would share this prize with my husband as he puts up with me being busy all the time, and tired and grumpy for the rest of it! There is a lot of chocolate there so would share with my best mates too, nothing like a cuppa and some chocs and a good gossip!

  2. Rachel says:

I would probably donate some of the prize to school for a raffle but would keep some to share with my lovely husband and children.

  3. Dee Emmett says:

I would love to win these to share with our fabulous team of volunteers. We run a wild bird and owl rescue centre and take in around 600 birds and owls each year. We manage to get two thirds of them back to the wild, all due to the care given by the team. They give their time, care and love freely and without them, Wing and a Prayer simply would not exist. It would be lovely to give something to them for a change.

  4. Liz Mulligan says:

I love my beautiful partner, Kerry, enough to share this fabulous prize with. We are moving in to our first home together on February 16th and so consequently we have both agreed that finances mean we can’t really celebrate Valentine’s day this year except for exchanging cards. So this would be an amazing ‘new home’, ‘Valentines’ and ‘thank you for agreeing to live with me’ gift all rolled in to one.

Good luck to everyone who enters.

  5. Julie says:

I would take the hamper into Endon Pre-School Playgroup and let the lovely ladies who ensure that Every Child Matters get to feast on all the lovely chocolate. I will secretly be hoping that they send some my way too though!

  6. Shirley says:

My twenty-seven year old son, Samuel, works for the Aegis Trust, a charity in Rwanda, Africa, which provides ongoing support for the widows and orphans of the 1994 genocide. Recently, he helped to set up the first Rwandan Youth Hostel which provides work for many of these people as well as funds to support them. Last Christmas, he organised a Christmas dinner for every orphan in the nearby Gisimba Orphanage because he didn’t feel it was fair that he would have sufficient to eat at this special time of year while their stomachs went hungry.
When he comes home for an occasional short break, the one thing he longs for is chocolate. This hamper would be an ideal way of saying ‘I love you and what you are doing to help others.’ I am sure that, much as he would love to eat all the chocolate himself (!), he would also share it with those people he is trying to serve.

  7. stef deveraux says:

simple. I’d share with my daughter and grandaughter…who have just come through a terrible time..yet still manage to smile

  8. Evey Moffat says:

I would share the prize with my mum who has been poorly lately. She’s already had 2 hip replacements and it looks like she will need one of them repaired. She’ll be 88 on the 11th February and is such a wee fighter.

  9. Sue Price says:

I would share mine with my sister.
She works at the local A & E dept at the hosital & is extremly busy.
She also minds my dog during the week for me, whilst I am at work!
Also, she gives me help with my uncle & our Mum who I look after too.

I would love to treat her with chocolate! As she loves Thorntons too.

I will have to buy some for her this weekend.

  10. Ann Ashwell says:

I’m diabetic so can’t share, but would gladly give the whole hamper to my youngest sister, whom I so admire. She has worked very hard as a trustee of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association over many years, and is an absolute chocoholic. She treated the family to a fabulous new year, and it would be a great thank you present.

  11. Karen says:

I would share a box with my family and friends.
The rest would be donated to my daughter to raffle so she could pay off what she owes for attending Roverway and anything extra could go towards raising money for her Explorer Belt expedition

  12. jill johnson says:

I would share it with my daughter and my brother. My daughter has said she’ll go without easter eggs this year and put money towards a new bench for the flicka foundation.

  13. Sheena Entwistle says:

I would raffle the prize of at my fashion show (all profits made to Christie’s Charity) in the hope to raise even more money for The Christie’s Cancer Hospital who are looking after my Nan and Cousin at the moment. This is just what i have been searching for x

  14. Bryony Kirkland says:

I would share this with the staff at our wonderful Preschool – and keep some of the contents for our next raffle.

  15. Kerry Hammond says:

As a chocoholic I have to admit to being tempted to keep all of this yummy chocolate to myself! But of course this would be very bad for my waistline so would share with St Catherines CofE Primary School, Ware as donations for their Quiz night raffle to raise money for the school x

  16. Carla Laver says:

I would give the chocolates away as a raffle prize for my daughter’s expedition with World Challenge!

  17. Ian says:

Would share a little with my darling wife as we celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss in October before passing to fellow members of Edinburgh and Lothians Prostate Cancer Support Group which is a self funded charity especially the volunteer ‘buddies’ who have undergone training to support and mentor new sufferers.

  18. Celia says:

Firstly I would share some with my brother and sister-in-law as they celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in March and Thornton’s Continental Viennese Truffles are her favourite. I would also share some with the present Methodist minister of our church who is retireing later in the year as both she and her husband are chocoholics.
Surely chocolates that good are for sharing on special occasions and I believe the above toccasions to be just that.

  19. Jur says:

Thorntons? Not gonna share it with anyone. Sorry! :O)

  20. Lu Greer says:

I would share with my mama, and tell her that she had to spend the evening relaxing and enjoying it with a big glass of wine. When she’s not at work she spends all of her time either helping my (very elderly) grandma or with her disabled sister, and she never gives herself any time. I’d like to be able to give her at least an evening where she doesn’t have to worry about anything.

  21. We run a wild Bird and Owl rehab centre in Norfolk. If we were to win, the chocolate would be devoured by our fantastic team of volunteers who turn out rain or shine to care for the birds at the Haven, it would be lovely to be able to give them a scrummy gift like this, we love em <3 (Also, it would help to keep their energy levels up ! )

  22. Claudine Chapman says:

I would donate it to the 6th formers of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School in Birmingham who are taking part in the “World Challenge Bag Pack”. The “World Challenge” student team are working hard to raise funds to take part in the trip and I would love to donate this to them to raffle off in school to help with their fundraising.

  23. Tara Plumley says:

The volunteers at Wing and A PrayerBird Sanctuary in Norfolk. They do a fantastic job saving wildbirds and wildlife by the hundreds every year. All for free.

  24. I am the founder of the national Fibromyalgia Conference taking place on April 26/29 2013 in Chichester. If Lady Luck smiled on me and I won the enticing Chocoholic Hamper by Thornton I would present these as a top prize to a delegate with fibromyalgia. It has recently been proven in medical abstracts that dark chocolate has health properties which especially assists those suffering with pain 24/7, chronic fatigue, depression and 100 other miserable symptoms. I would keep my fingers crossed that they might give me one or two chocolates for my fibromyalgia.
Good luck to everyone. It is a shame there are not a lot of chocolate prizes. Fibro hugs Jeanne

  25. Jo Allett says:

    My daughter has Turners Syndrome.

As much as I would love to eat this myself I would take it to the TSSS conference in Oct and put into the silent auction to help raise funds TSSS.

If won this would help raise a lot of funds that weekend.

  26. Mary says:

Working in Madagascar (where a lot of the chocolate originates from!) – I would share it with the Malagasy ladies I work with each day. They wouldn’t be able to afford chocolates like that, but they would love them. Each time we travel from the UK we have to take them sweets and chocolates!!
They are such a happy group of ladies, yet have so little and so grateful that we have helped them find work.

  27. Jan Paine says:

I would like to share the chocolates with my hubby and children (usually don’t have a choice anyway). Deoending on the quantity I would also like to donate some to Kipling Lions Pre-school for a raffle prize and some to the PTFA at Rudyard Kipling School.

  28. Jeremy T says:

We have a party for refugee families in Birmingham on 19th February and this prize would be wonderful for sharing with all the children who come along.

  29. kater says:

So much chocolate, so many good causes who deserve it! I would definitely split it between the charities that I support to maximise the potential fundraising from such a generous prize.

  30. Neil Simmonite says:

I’d love to treat all the fantastic volunteers of our local dog rescue (Radar Dog Rescue) who go to walk the rescue dogs twice a day to make sure they are exercised and loved while they are in their care at private kennels until they find their forever homes. All the dogs in their care have been saved from being put to sleep from the local pound. The dedication and time given from the volunteers is outstanding and I’m sure a chocolate would be welcomed by all the walkers before they set out in all weather.. However knowing THE RADAR FAMILY OF VOLUNTEERS they will probably suggest raffling the chocolates to raise much needed funds for the upkeep of the dogs. They are all truly amazing.

  31. Laura Reay says:

Id have to share it all around
There are plenty of people to pamper

  38. Ruth Clark says:

I would be tempted to eat a few myself, but I am climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in June so I should probably lay off the chocolates until then! Instead, I would have the hamper as my star raffle prize at my fundraising quiz night in a few weeks time in aid of Childreach International.

  39. Gill Elkins says:

I would take a sneaky something to share with the family, who are always suffereing me not being at home due to something going on and the rest I would use as a raffle prize to boost the Crime Prevention Panel funds. To the good people at Dogs Trust ( whoever they may be) for helping with homeless dogs. If they dont eat it they can raffle it to raise funds :O)

  43. Lizzie says:

I would open up all the boxes and give the ones my mum likes to her (as usual, just like at Christmas!!), then eat all of my favourites before all of my family get their hands on them!!
And then, what’s left I would share with my beautiful boyfriend and his son as we looooove to eat chocolate on these cold wintery days. Especially when littl’un wakes us up at 5am!!!!

  56. Marie Clarke says:

I would really love to win these chocolates to share with my boyfriend John on our first Valentines Day together. We first met at school 23 years ago and although he always liked me, I didn’t have a clue and it took him 20 years to finally find the courage to ask me out. I didn’t realise I was that scary! We’ve been together for 7 months now and are very happy.John has supported me through a really difficult time, where I sadly lost both of my parents quite close together. I wouldn’t have coped without him and I hope these chocolates will help to show him how amazing I think he is, especially as I never usually share my chocolate with anyone! I would also like to share some of the chocolates with the volunteers at the swimming club.

  57. Karen says:

I would send the hamper to brighten the lives of the boys at the Jeel Al Amal Home and School in Bethany, Israel and let them know that they are remembered and loved. This would be partly for my little sister, who is visiting from Australia in April – I won’t have seen her for nearly 5 years, and she sent me an enormous box of Thornton’s chocolates for my 55th birthday, so she deserves to get some back. We love each other to bits and miss each other terribly, so it would be a good way of showing her how I feel, on top of all the cuddles we will be giving each other. As she wouldn’t manage to eat it all before she goes back, and wouldn’t be able to take very much back with her either, part of it would be used for raffle prizes for the Hounds for Heroes Charity.

I would share these chocolates with my colleagues and youth trainers from young pioneers. My CEO started his charity about 5 years ago when he was just 12 years old after he was bullied at school, he wanted to show other young people that its cool to care for yourself, for others and for the environment. When I became homeless he took me in , provided me with support, clothes, food and helped me to get into safe accommodation, they taught me how to shop and cook on a budget and provided me with furniture, they trained me to be a youth trainer and Luke has helped change the lives of over 6000 young people. These chocolates would mean so much to us, we could also use them in an auction or a raffle.

I would share this prize with all my friends in our little village who meet once a month for our ‘Chattery’. They have been so supportive since we moved here and particularly when our grandson, in Australia, was diagnosed with PWS, a rare gnetic condition. These are not young, yummy mummies they are older folk who support the community and all in it. Even to my 91 year old neighbour, a chocaholic by the way, phoning to ask if I needed my shopping doing when I was ill recently. They deserve a treat.

  90. Sam Paine says:

My sister and I are off to Uganda in the summer on a world challenge expedition. We will be working in a local community helping with the construction and maintenance of their school. The basic cost of the trip is £3770.00 each which we have almost raised but also need to help mum and dad raise money for kit, visa’s, passports and vaccinations (which we have just found out are in the region of £500.00 each!)

So……if we were lucky enough to win this fab prize our plan is to give mum and dad a box of chocies to say thanks for all their help and raffle the rest to raise some more money.

    Fingers crossed and thank you.

  91. At Caris Islington we have 40 volunteers who deliver weekly counselling to bereaved children and adults. They are an amazing, dedicated, group of people who give up so much time to help others. They make such a difference to our clients but their meetings can be very upsetting as our clients can be devastated by their losses. I love to support them as much as possible and to be able to put such an amazing Thorntons hamper in our little kitchen with a note to say “help yourselves” would be fantastic. To be honest the volunteers are pleased when we occasionally have chocolate digestives in the kitchen so can you imagine their faces if they found this assortment of wonderful Thornton chocolates! They deserve the best and I would love to pamper them and say thank you to them with this hamper.

  92. Ms M Pickering says:

  93. Sarah Jane says:

I would give the whole lot to my friend Nicole. This week, because I was having a bad week, she made me fudge to cheer me up. It worked as it was soooo yummy! I can’t cook for toffee (excuse the pun) so would love to do something nice for her to return the favour!

I’m sure however, she would use it to raise money for our Brownie pack as at the moment we are trying really hard to raise funds to keep our pack from closing!

    Thank you Nicole x

  94. Liz says:

    Hi

I would share this with the girls at my Girls Brigade group, We would have a slumber party with pamper things, watch a DVD and sleep over on our hall floor on air beds with the teenagers, Oh what fun even at my age a nearly OAP.

I would share it with my mum. My dad died when I was little and Mum has had to work so hard since. She really misses him and I sometimes find it hard to show her how much I care for her. I know she would use it to help raise money for others because that’s the kind of person that she is – perfect, just like Thornton’s chocolates.

  96. Linda Southgate says:

I would love to win this hamper for my daughter. She is the delight of my life and I do not know what I would do without her. Since losing my husband she has helped me enormously to be positive and has given me the encouragement to enjoy life again and she is there to help and comfort me when I need her most and, of course, she too is having to live her life without her “dad”.

I would share this with my family. I’ve been poorly this weekend and they’ve been busy doing the cooking and looking after me. Also it’s my mum’s 80th in a few weeks and we’re having a family get together for her birthday so would be nice to have some good quality chocolates as a treat. I’d also save some for a raffle/prize for our PTA. After all, who doesn’t like Thorntons!

  103. I would share this with the Children in Africa I will hopefully get to visit in a few months :)

  104. Amanda says:

Corby Silver Band would give this wonderful prize to the staff and patients of Lakelands Hospice in Corby and then they can share it with each other.

Lakelands Hospice in Corby, has been the chosen charity which Corby Silver Band are happy and proud to support. The patients who use the hospice all have cancer, and the band is fully aware of the constant support and excellent care provided by the team of nurses and so a gift of some chocolate would hopefully give both the staff and patients a bit of a boost at a time when life seems bleak and uncertain.

  105. Vicky Ellis says:

I would definately share this lovely prize with my son. He has been my absolute rock and best friend. He is considerate, kind and thoughtful and just the best son ever! I would also like to share this prize with my best friend. We have been best friends since we were 7 nearly 40 years ago! Our friendship has never faltered in all that time. I don’t have a partner but I sometimes have to pinch myself as I feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful son and great best friend.

I would share my Chocolate with my fiancee, we have been through a really tough time over the past year and are still trying to get over it (which I know will take a long time) the impending birth of our second child has given us something to focus on and seems as I am pregnant I could really do with the chocolate : ) xxxxxxx but of course not too much because that’s not healthy!!!!!!

  107. Carole Kynoch says:

I would keep it aaaall to myself, unless my husband and three children find where i have hidden it!

  108. Sarah T says:

we are a registered charity pre-school and have just spent many long hours refurbishing our new premises. all the helpers did this on a purely voluntary basis, some staying until midnight so we could get it ready for the local children. I would share the chocolates will all our DIY SOSers!

I would share it with my amazing daughter who regularly helps care for her elderly Grandfather, and gives him lots of love and support following the loss of her Grandother to Alzhiemers. All with a smile.
She has the chance to go to an America international camp with her Gurl guide pack and is helping fundraise to help pay for the trip by doing car boot sales, selling her old toys , coffee mornings and bag packing.
I would give her a few treats a donate it to her to use as prizes to help with her future fundraising for herelf and the pack.

  110. Rachael Haylock says:
