About Aware Defeat Depression

We are a small organisation dedicated to helping people with depression in Northern Ireland to find the help they need to get well. We have 100 volunteers who help us run over 20 self-help support groups in towns across the province and our information and support helpline. Depression affects 1 in 4 of us and is the reason for 75% of suicides, yet no one should die from depression because it is a treatable condition, that people can and do recover from, if they get the right help and support. We are the only charity providing this for people in Northern Ireland so please help us to continue our work. Apart from our helpline and support groups we run an education programme for schools and train health professionals on the signs and symptoms and treatments available for depression. We produce information books and hold public talks to raise awareness of depression and where to get help and we campaign for better resources for mental health and for better treatment for those with depression. We recieve some statutory funding but not enough to run all our services or to help the 100.000 people with depression in N.I. so we do rely on voluntary doantions to keep going.
