About Buckinghamshire Railway Centre

The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is a working steam museum with charitable status and is largely run by volunteers. The Centre boasts one of the largest private railway collections in the country. Your donation will help others re-live the history of the victorian railways.The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre is located on a 25-acre site at the former Metropolitan and Great Central Railway station of Quainton Road, Bucks. The Centre opened in 1968 following the closure of the mainline to Manchester in 1966. Quainton was chosen by the then London Railway Preservation Society as the most suitable place to house its growing collection in the ample space provided by the extensive sidings.From small beginnings the Centre has acquired over 30 steam and diesel locomotives as well as one of the most extensive collections of freight stock in the country. Principal locomotives include Metropolitan 0-4-4T No. 1, Beattie 2-4-0T No. 30585 and GWR Hall Class 4-6-0 No. 6989 Wightwick Hall together with GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5080 Defiant (on loan from Birmingham Railway Museum). Passenger stock includes a dining car from the Royal Train of 1901, a cinema coach and a number of 6-wheeled wooden bodied coaches.
