About Renfrewshire Community Health Initiative

Renfrewshire Community Health Initiative

RCHI has been in existence since 1998 and has considerable experience in delivering community-led health improvement activities. Our existing and previous activities have been well supported by key statutory and voluntary organisations within Renfrewshire.

We recognise that life events can have a positive or negative impact on a person’s health. Our approach is to address the wider determinants of health to encourage inclusion, involvement, raising levels of self-esteem, confidence and achievement and promoting equality through reducing and removing barriers to good health.

RCHI aims to improve health and wellbeing in Renfrewshire and to encourage people to see their health as a positive aspect of their life. We address health inequalities using a community development approach to health improvement. We utilise the National Standards for Community Engagement to engage with people and communities towards improving their own health and that of their community.

We target those with unmet health needs and who face barriers to good health and who are not currently engaged with services. This approach encourages community capacity building and active community member participation in health related issues. Local people, working together at community level and in partnership with other service providers, focusing on health in its broadest sense, can help to develop sustainable communities that improve their quality of life.

Under our ‘Health Directions Project’, we currently deliver and maintain a positive community health development programme across Renfrewshire\'s deprived areas reflecting key health priorities encompassing the themes of tobacco control, alcohol awareness and obesity prevention.
