About Royal College of Surgeons of England

With over 8 million operations taking place in the UK every year, our aim to maintain and advance surgical standards in patient care has never been so important. Some operations are minor, while others are life-saving or will dramatically enhance the quality of life. In every case, the patient places their trust in the hands of the surgeon.

The College honours this trust by continuing to sustain and improve surgical standards throughout England and Wales. Our training, education and research programmes are intended to advance the knowledge and skills of surgeons so that the treatment received by patients is of the highest possible standard.

As a registered charity (No 212808), independent of the NHS, the College relies heavily on charitable support to fund the development of these activities. Legacies and donations from grant-giving trusts, companies and individuals provide a vital source of income and allow us to fund important new projects and initiatives.
