About Portsmouth Hospitals Rocky Appeal
The Rocky Appeal was launched on 5th April 2007 to raise £3MILLION for new state of the art, space age keyhole surgery theatres at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth by 2009. They will enable surgeons to use keyhole surgery to remove complex gastric and early and advanced cancers of the colon, and to operate on hernias, spleens and appendices; as well as gynaecological, kidney, bladder and joint problems.
Immediate benefits including less pain, smaller scars, faster recovery and quicker return to work and family life, will also reduce the average stay in hospital from twelve days to two, some leaving within hours of their operation. They will also greatly reduce the risk of contracting infections such as MRSA.
