Run and raise money for a charity you care about

When it comes to running for charity, there are lots to consider. Will you be creating the event yourself? Participating in pre-organised run? Going fancy dress? How much training’s involved? These are just some of the questions you need to ask when it comes to fundraising.

From choosing an event to suit you to planning your own run, we can help you get off on the right foot. Here’s how to get started.

Starting from scratch

If you’re organising a run, there are certain steps you need to take to ensure it’s a success. Charity runs are the perfect way to raise awareness and donations. But it is important that you don’t neglect the planning. You need to choose a distance, and a route that’s safe, accessible and easy to follow. It’s also important to check that your local council is fine with you taking that certain route and that everything is legit.

Depending on the size of your run and the numbers involved, you also need to consider setting up start and finishing tapes, support areas with first aid and water, toilet facilities and starter packs. Once you know who you’re targeting and what resources you need, you can then set feasible goals and start to promote your run (via print or social media). Good luck!

Time to train

Once you’ve signed up to an event and everything’s planned, don’t neglect your training. The sooner you start, the better. But don’t run before you can walk! Ease yourself into regular workouts and ensure you’re prepared for the big day.

Create a realistic regime that you can stick to. Overexerting yourself in the first few workouts will only cause more harm than good. Make training fun and sociable, and try to get your friends involved. The NHS’s Couch to 5k programme is perfect for first time runners, take a look.
