Changing lives @ Sky College

Dear Friends I work at Sky College, an educational department that accommodates some of the most challenging students in the country. The young men we work with do not fit into a regular schooling system. Neglect and abuse in their home lives has affected their education enormously leaving the students lacking any confidence in their abilities. The fears that they hold are manifested in anti-social behaviour which adversely affects the communities we all live in. The school aims to change the lives of these students. I am working on a project in which we will take a group of students from the school to Nepal to help support community projects in the locality. By challenging the students to work in poverty-stricken areas of Nepal we hope to make them understand how capable they are and reinforce that they can achieve so much during their life-times. We are looking at taking a large group young people away during the summer of 2013 with the local outdoor project team Outposts. Outposts run school ventures to Asia that allow pupils to make a difference in deprived communities that they visit through teaching and building projects. We strongly feel that such trips are capable of significantly changing the courses of many of our pupil’s lives. A funding committee will be set up, led by the pupils, which will look over the next two years at ways of raising the finances of the trip. Through their hard work and determination will be an important part of the fundraising we do. The Taunton Gazette has agreed to follow our project from the outset promoting our fundraising events, our learning conferences and the trip to Nepal. We are now looking for other individuals or companies willing to sponsor our project through donations as well as guidance in fund-raising.
