This 4 week expedition gives me the opportunity to really get to know the wildlife of the Carpathians, in Transylvania, Romania. It starts with a week completing the Transylvanian Ecology course and the following three weeks will be spent helping with the biodiversity surveys in three different valleys. Across Europe, much of the natural landscape has been lost to population increases and intense agricultural farming. However the traditional farming methods that are still used in Transylvania has allowed it to be one of the most biodiverse places in Europe. This ecological study of both farming practices and flora and fauna can enable a better understanding of how Transylvania remains to be a haven for such a wild range of wildlife.
