Fairfield Bowls Club

Fairfield Bowls Club is situated in the heart of Fairfield Park, a modern housing development in Bedfordshire that consists of a full range of homes from starter to large family dwellings. The park derives it’s name from the 19th century hospital that occupied the site until it’s closure in 1999. The main hospital building has been converted to apartments and the surrounding grounds hosts around 1000 homes.The Bowls Club was formed in 1956 and was part of the extensive sports and leisure facilities enjoyed by hospital inmates and staff. The Hospital was a self-contained community with farming, agriculture and it’s own Theatre. Sports included Football, Bowls and Cricket. The Cricket pitch is still in use (currently by Letchworth CC B team and various guest clubs including England Ladies Team in 2009) and lies between the main Hospital Building and the Bowls Pavilion.Fairfield Bowls Club has managed to survive the turmoil during the closure of the Hospital and the prolonged construction and has progressively seen an increase in membership. The club encourages all adults to join. Friendly games against other clubs are generally played on Saturdays and teams are made-up of both ladies and gentlemen (mixed).
