Gateshead College Foundation - Tyne and Wear

Gateshead College recently established the Gateshead College Foundation, an independent charity established with the purpose of making sure that young people and adults living in our region, can access funds and other resources to enable them to develop their skills and improve their future employment prospects by assisting them to study at Gateshead College. In the current economic climate many potential learners find the financial constraints in relation to travel, tuition fees and course material costs a major barrier preventing them from studying at College. The abolition of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), cuts to fee remission for adults and other funding cuts have exacerbated these financial difficulties for potential students, and posed a major issue for Colleges in general in encouraging students to further their studies. Education has the power to transform lives, and there is no greater need than now for people to have the chance to develop the skills they need to get jobs, improve their prospects and get our economy moving. The staff and students of Gateshead College firmly believe the launch of the Foundation will remove some of the barriers that stand in the way and will give those learners with particular talents the opportunity to thrive!
