About this cause

About our cause

Oscar joins the Wallace clan to become the 6th member living in Montrose. He joins a long family tradition of serving the community. Three generations before him have all served with HM Coastguard, two as volunteer rescue officers, ready 24-7 to respond to search, mud and cliff emergencies along the Angus and Aberdeenshire coastline, and before that, Grandad Thomson was a watch officer at Balmedie and Bridge of Don look outs. Oscar and his handler Scott will be looking to be the first dedicated K9 SAR asset in the North East of Scotland coastal areas. Oscar and Scotts aim is to provide assistance HM Coastguard and Police Scotland in the search for missing persons. Scott a servicing officer with HM Coastguard and takes with him 6yrs of experience of searching along a wind swept and dangerous coastline between Dundee and Aberdeen. Oscar will first have to attend the International Rescue Training Centre in Wales for assessment on attitude and concentration as the training will be continual and requires the full attention of dog and handler. Thereafter some distance learning will occur and a bi monthly assessments around Scotland. Once accredited he will be declared to each emergency service as an land scent search asset. To get Oscar through the first part of his training will cost £5,000. Oscar and Scott hope you will see the benefit to having a local search dog, ready to respond 24-7, 365 days a year. Oscar is a 6 month old pedigree Golden Retriever who loves nothing more than running on the beach, hiding in long grass or searching for his toys. It's all a game to him which he loves. Every working dog does it for the enjoyment and reward. If he didn't, we would not consider putting him through the training. He's looking forward to his games of hide and seek. Thank you in advance for your support.
