Lancaster Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lancaster. Built by E. G. Paley between 1857 and 1859, Lancaster Cathedral is a fine neo-gothic church with windows by Hardman's and Shrigley & Hunt, a newly restored pipe organ (Ainscough; 1889) and a carved and painted triptych designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Lancaster Cathedral is also an important heritage and cultural venue within the city of Lancaster offering a full range of concerts and dramatic events.
