NCI Polruan lookout is situated on St Saviours Hill in Polruan and covers a sea area from Lizard Point in the West to Eddystone Light in the East as well as the harbour in the River Fowey. The lookout building was originally built in the late 1800's as a signal station and then became a Coast Guard lookout; subsequently it was used as the pilot's lookout until 1999 when it was taken over by the Polruan branch of the NCI. The lookout is manned by a team of about 50 volunteers who all live in the locality. All volunteers are trained to a high standard and the Lookout has Declared Facility Status which means that it is officially recognised by HM Coast Guard as part of the Search and Rescue Community.
