In 1994, two local fisherman were drowned right below a recently closed coastguard station on the Lizard in Cornwall. A Team of volunteers formed the National Coast watch Institution in 1994 and opened the first station at Bass Point in Cornwall Torbay NCI is a sub branch of the main institution and has its own Charity Status. The role of the charity is run a Watch Tower manned by volunteers 7days a week, to watch out foe boats , swimmers, canoists and walkers, who may be in trouble.
