This church, dedicated to St Martin of Tours, is the oldest of the town's three medieval churches. It is recognisable by its octagonal stone steeple. Built within the town walls and just a few yards from the castle, the church can be traced back to Norman times but it was rebuilt in the fourteenth century. Its dedication to St Martin of Tours indicates a foundation early in the twelfth century.
