Theatre Royal, Dumfries

Ae Village

The Theatre Royal, Dumfries, is the oldest theatre in Scotland. The Guild of Players, one of Scotland's oldest amateur dramatic companies, bought the theatre in 1959. It closed in 2014 for a major refurbishment designed to stabilise the building and ensure that it continues to be a resource for the people of Dumfries and Galloway in the 21st century. The theatre now hosts Guild productions, touring theatre, music and comedy, art exhibitions, community events and a local heritage archive.
