Liskeard Leopards Womens Rugby

Rugby for girls is often misunderstood but it is a fast growing sport appealing to girls of all ages. Rugby’s values - teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship provide a healthy, physical sport, which develops life skills and lifelong friendships, providing fun in a safe environment. Our coaches have visited schools, not only in Liskeard but also in Bodmin, Looe, Callington, and Saltash, attracting players from all of them. Our club has already attracted enough girls to be able to field an under 12’s team, an under 15’s and we also have a number of under 18’s, although not enough yet to make their own team. One of our under 18’s, Lucy Demaine has captained the England Ladies Under 18’s and many of the girls play for South West Regional Squad. We are unique in that we are a mobile club and do not have our own clubhouse or playing area. Instead, we have an arrangement with Liskeard School and Community College which enables us to use their training and changing facilities. We have also been allowed to place a shipping container adjacent to the playing area for the storage of kit etc. Following the donation of a box trailer and the purchase of portable lights we are able to train at almost any venue. The RFU are taking a keen interest in the club which has amazed and surprised many in the rugby world. We have registered over fifty girls and have a strong coaching and support group of adults. We take our duty of care very seriously, ensuring that all involved adults are CRB checked and properly trained for the responsibilities they hold, be it coaching, assisting, refereeing, safeguarding etc. We are always on the lookout for new players and volunteers and hope to continue to grow for many more years to come.
