Tylorstown Band are celebrating the finest hour in their 90 year history – as National Champions of Great Britain. The brass band formed in 1920 won the title in the Second Section in the finals in Harrogate. The 28 strong band got the thumbs up from the judges following their performance of Psalms and Hallelujahs by Philip Wilby. Conductor Gary Davies, who joined the band in 2005, said: “This is the band’s greatest and proudest achievement in its long history. “I cannot praise the band members enough for the efforts they have put in to win this coveted trophy.” The band beat off 16 competitors to win the final. It has been a momentous year for the musician who also won the second section at the Welsh Regional Championships at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, earlier this year. Mr Davies said that the future also looks bright for the Fach based band with a youth section now formed. He said: “We are thrilled to be able to start up a junior section and we looking forward to building on our success.” Visitors and players are always welcome to attend rehearsals, held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.45pm for the Senior Band and Friday from 5.00 pm for the Junior Band at the band room on Edmund Street.
