Wath Cricket Club

Wath Cricket Club are one of the founder Members of the South Yorkshire (formerly South Riding) Senior Cricket League. The Club was formed almost 110 years ago - the Club and the town owe much to the local brewer, Spedding Whitworth , who gave the ground and a £1000 donation towards the cost of building the original pavilion in 1899 (later burnt down in 1981). The Clubs aims are two fold - to promote the game of Cricket at all possible levels, and to endeavour to provide the best possible facilities for our Members and visitors. We currently field five Senior teams, our First XI competing in the Premier Division of the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League , with three other teams playing on a Saturday - another in the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League - Division 1 and two teams in the Doncaster & Sheffield Alliance. A fourth Saturday team was added for the 2010 season this being due to the demand placed on the club to develop further the very large number of very talented youngsters who are playing at the club. There is also a.Sunday XI playing in Division 1 of the Barnsley & District Cricket League. The Club owes a huge debt of gratitude to our President, Brian Thorpe and former Chairman of 25 years, Les Peace for their contribution to the success of Junior Cricket at Wath, particularly in the last 15 years - so many of our young players have progressed to Regional, County and even North of England and England Schools Representative honours.
