This competition is now closed, thank you to everyone who entered. One entry really stood out for us and we had no hesitation in choosing Sophie Fisher, who supports Millom Pre School, as our winner. Here’s her winning entry:
“I would like to win this prize for my sister to treat her as in June last year, just before her 21st birthday, she found she was expecting. Everyone was so excited and as I myself was pregnant would talk about all the things our families would do together.
Then in August her fiance (who was 31 years old) was diagnosed with cancer which came as a heart-wrenching blow to all our families (as only a year and a half earlier his mother had died from the same, and the day my sister found out about her pregnancy her father-in-law had passed away from a heart attack).
My son arrived at the end of September and my husband and I were over-joyed, everyone came to visit us and although it was a happy time, the thought of what my sister and her partner were going through were never far from our minds.
He had constant trips to hospital for radiation, radiotherapy and all kinds of other treatments, Christmas came and went and he got even more poorly. In the new year his and my sisters baby arrived on the 18th of January and after that he seemed to pick up a little and we went go-karting for his 32nd birthday.
He started a new course of treatment in March and had a 4 hour round trip to hospital nearly everyday. The treatment unfortunately was not working and he became more dependent on my sister which became hard for her with having a new baby to look after too. On the 6th of May he passed away peacefully at home.
The last couple of months have been so tough on my sister and the rest of our families and I would like to win this for as she’s been through so much and at such a young age she deserves it. I hope you think so too.”
