Bawso Womens Aid

Established in 1995 BAWSO is an all Wales, voluntary organisation, providing generic and specialist services to Black and Minority Ethnic women and children, who are, or are about to be made homeless through a threat of domestic violence. Its work extends to providing support to black and ethnic women confronted with forced marriage, threatened honour killing, female genital mutilation, prostitution and trafficking. Some of the women fleeing domestic violence desperately need emergency accommodation, support and protection but are subject to the ‘no recourse to public funds’, because of their insecure immigration status. They cannot access any form of emergency accommodation, including refuges, as they are not able to claim housing benefit, income support and other state benefits. We believe “Every woman deserves a place of safety\'” and we are therefore raising funds to help accommodate and provide subsistence costs for a limited period for women who have experienced domestic violence and have insecure immigration status with no recourse to public funds.
