In November 2013 our family had to deal with the tragic death of a wonderful young 19 year old Cian Pace, son, nephew and cousin to our family. Cian was involved in a car accident and was cared for at Nottingham Queen's Medical Centre. He was there for 4 days before sadly he died of his injuries. The medical care and support that Cian received from staff was absolutely excellent but unfortunately the facilities for families with relatives in the Intensive Care Unit were not so good. It is our aim to raise enough funds to support the hospital in improving the rooms and facilities for families that need space and comfort at a very difficult time. It was our experience that families had to share one small inadequate room, families (ourselves included) had to hear devastating news in the corridor where other families could hear and see while waiting for their own news. There were a few uncomfortable seats outside the unit and a long line of waste bins that were being picked up and emptied all day and night by motorised vehicles, sometimes right in the middle of a family grieving. Staff at the hospital agreed that it was unacceptable but their hands were tied, it is our aim to ensure families never have to go through what we had to and can support each other in a suitable and appropriate environment.
