About our cause

Each year EEF selects 15 – 20 extremely bright, highly motivated 14 year old Ethiopians (in Addis Ababa) from extremely underprivileged backgrounds and guides them to achieve their ambitions in life.

After a 4 year sponsorship programme at one of the leading schools in Ethiopia, our students are ready to enter university and become doctors, engineers, etc.

Each student accepted onto the programme has an individual mentor who covers the cost of the student’s education. In addition to giving them financial support (school fees, housing and food), we establish a direct relationship between the students and their mentors, giving both a chance to communicate regularly by email, exchange information and benefit from each others experience.

So one day our ‘children’ live rough on the street (many of them are orphans) and 4 years later they go to university.

Around 30% of our students are at the age of 13 already completely alone in this world and have to work in order to get money to eat. Often they sleep rough on the street and despite all that achieve great results. For these students we provide food and shelter on top of the school fees/ scholarship.

We do all our work for free in our spare time, and we spend zero % of donations on administration, as our trustees cover all expenses. www.ethio-ed.org
