Britannia Panopticon is the world's oldest surviving music hall where Stan Laurel made his debut in 1906. Built in 1857 above the Britannia Vaults pub, it was also one of the first cinemas in 1896. As well as music hall & cinema, from 1906 the entertainments included carnival, freakshows, waxworks, zoo, and gallery. It closed in 1938 and was hidden behind a false ceiling and forgotten, until it was rediscovered in 1997. Now the Friends of Britannia Panopticon are raising money to keep it open
