Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society

The Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society was founded in 1946 by the late June Gordon, Marchioness of Aberdeen and her late husband David Gordon, Marquis of Aberdeen. The society has successfully maintained three important aims during 65 years of distinctive artistic activity at Haddo : • creating a centre of artistic excellence at Haddo for the performance of choral music in all its forms; • providing education and entertainment to the local population, including groups catering for young people; • offering opportunities for young professional and local amateur musicians to work alongside established professionals. Our society embraces singers of all ages and abilities with no membership audition. Members receive expert musical and singing tuition from Musical Director Alice E Dennis GTCL and also gain from the mental and physical well-being which comes with taking part in community choral singing. Many of our singers begin performing with Haddo in their school years. Some have gone on to study music and have achieved successful singing careers and many have taken their choral experiences into their adult lives. The Society organises a varied and well received annual programme which includes an Autumn concert, Christmas Carol concerts in the Chapel at Haddo and elsewhere in Aberdeen City and Shire, and an opera in April, giving members the opportunity to work with professional soloists and musicians as well as a professional production team.
