Over £35m raised for good causes through easyfundraising
Berakah International Foundation (BIF) are a grassroots charity located in Siaya County in Western Kenya, close to the border with Uganda. BIF work with small communities subject to extreme poverty and inequality to ensure the socio-economic security of vulnerable adults and children. Kenya has very high rates of HIV and BIF work to look after orphans who have frequently lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS. BIF aim to create a sustainable future for communities by teaching them farming skills and increasing access to education and schooling. Since having applied to work for BIF through the UNV Online Volunteering programme, I have been asked to go out to Siaya County to help in a more practical way. My work will be a mixture of caring for the children, teaching in schools, helping train communities and then helping the charity directly with administrative tasks and fundraising events. I hope to go there for 2-3 weeks in the New Year.
