Lochaber High School is the six-year comprehensive school which is fortunate to have Jim Sutherland as the Head Teacher. The High School serves the town of Fort William and the greater Lochaber area. There are eleven associated primary schools including : Banavie, Caol, Fort William, Fort William RC, Invergarry, Inverlochy, Lochyside, Roy Bridge, Spean Bridge, St Brideâ€™s and Upper Achintore.
The school stands in spectacular surroundings to the north of Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. Set in the â€œOutdoor Capital of the UKâ€, Lochaber High offers a unique and extensive range of extra-curricular activities. Pupils have the opportunity to participate in art, drama, music and sporting activities as well as the Duke of Edinburghâ€™s Award Scheme and charity fundraising events. There are strong links with the Commando Association who visit the school at Remembrance weekend each year. The school has arranged an extensive programme of educational trips in this country and abroad including S6 London, â€œAdventure Franceâ€, Iceland, Paris, New York and Skiing in the French Alps.
Major events in the school calendar include an annual fundraising hike, School Show, Christmas dances, a work-experience programme for S3 and, at the end of S6, a Graduation Ceremony and ball.
The current school roll is 862 pupils.
