Match&Fuse (M&F) is an innovative international tour and promotion organisation led by the ensemble WorldService Project (WSP). The festivals are at the centre of M&F’s development over the next three years. M&F sees award-winning Jazz-Punk specialists WSP seek out emerging European ensembles with a similar musical philosophy for double-bill tours in Europe and the UK. Audiences with similar musical tastes are shared though bands utilising the local knowledge and expertise relevant to their culture’s live-music scene. Through these exciting creative partnerships bands combine forces, write new music for each other, and expand one another’s global reach. With two successful exchanges already completed in 2011 and the next three nearing completion, M&F is gaining great attention from national and international audiences. Following on from this, we will continue building relationships between different ensembles, musicians and industry professionals in the fields of European jazz, experimental and leftfield music in five countries over the next year. The first of these culture-crossing events will bring together 14 young, dynamic bands from across Europe over two days in Gillett Square and the Vortex Jazz Club. This location is the central focus of up-and-coming, culturally creative Dalston in the Olympic borough of Hackney, combining a multi-cultural backdrop with the recent influx of youthful vibrancy. Dalston suits the musical ethos of the festival perfectly in its diversity, dynamic attitude and mix of alternative and cutting-edge artistry. As a free community event the festival will have a hugely varied audience profile – it is intended to function as cross-cultural entertainment, free of restrictive genre-labelling. This has informed the choice of Trio VD and Led-Bib as festival headliners – both have an international reputation for defying musical categorisation and enjoy widespread critical acclaim. Producers have already been secured for the M&F festival over the next three years: Clarissa Carlyon (Hackney Cooperative Developments), for Dalston, London 2012 Eirik Tofte (Tofte Management, Music Export Norway), for Oslo 2013 Davide Cardea (MegaSound Records, Music and Miles Agency), for Rome 2014 Our aim is to develop M&F and its showpiece festivals into a significant brand in the European musical market.
