About Hospital Radio Wrightington - 48 Hour Radiothon

A Wrightington/Wigan hospital radio station is to give patients and Internet listeners a chance to listen with a 48-hour musical marathon. Radio Wrightington will be opening up the airwaves in MAY 2016 for the two-day fund-raising effort, to give the charity a much needed cash boost. The station, which currently broadcasts a number of two or three hour shows every day each week except Sundays (at the moment) is looking for funds to improve the experience for patients at both Hospitals and now outside via Our Website on the Internet. The Laughing Gnome who hosts a show each Tuesday and Saturdays, said: "It costs to keep things going each year because of insurance, upkeep of equipment and buying replacement CDs etc. We are a charity so we have to raise all the money ourselves. The Laughing Gnome says we are your friends on the air, visit the hospital wards to have a chat with patients and relatives and collect requests for our shows. The importance of the service can never be underestimated "The patients know they can have contact with the presenter and have their requests played on air. It’s personal and makes them feel special" we always have a good laugh with them and take time to talk to them when we go round the wards." But it isn't just money that we are hoping to raise–we are also on the lookout for new members also new Presenters and a long lasting Friendship with patients and relatives to listen in to the Radio when in Hospital or when they go home and recovering via the Internet and spread the word what a wonderful caring Hospital Radio Station we are. The Laughing Gnome has been with the station for 2 years after answering an advert in the Monthly Magazine There is room for more volunteers, especially considering that there are still slots to fill when we don't do live broadcast sometimes and also supporting staff For example, people to go around the wards and collect requests also in the studio with sound, IT skills outdoor broadcasts. The station has been a part of Wrightington Hospital for over 40 years we also we take live matches from (Wigan Athletic and Warriors games) through the station at the hospital so everyone can listen The 48- hour broadcasting marathon will take place May 2016 with proceeds going towards the radio station.
