The Oratory School Mountaineering Society has set a once in a lifetime challenge. Ten boys have accepted the challenge and will be heading to Everest Base Camp in 2013. We will be following in the footsteps of previous expeditioners, following the Everest Trail to Everest Base Camp through the mountain scenery of the Khumbu. Due to the high altitude, we will make a careful ascent, ensuring that rest days are taken to aid acclimatisation. The highest point is Everest Base Camp (5360m). As we near Base Camp, the trail will take us right beside the Khumbu Glacier enabling us to see this natural wonder up-close. On the trail we will pass through many Sherpa villages, including Namche Bazaar and Thyangboche. The Sherpa are an ethnic group from high in the Himalayas; they are highly regarded as elite mountaineers and experts in their local terrain.
