Operation Wallacea's work in the Papaya-Samiria National reserve in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest constitutes vital research on the effects of global warming and the resulting imbalance of the flooding cycles on the unique ecosystem and animals of the reserve. The data collected can also then be applied to other regions also at risk of destruction by climate change. Furthermore, the goal of the expedition is also to specifically collect data on fish populations in order to develop more sustainable fisheries for the indigenous populations, thus highlighting the broad ranging interests of the organisation, from environmental protection to social advancement and sustainable development. For me, the expedition is a great change to enchance my academic experience and capitalise on an excellent opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge, skills and experience for further education and future career prospects.
