Since 1994, The Rainbow Centre has been delivering sevices to the community of Wrexham Maelor South, in North East Wales. Most of our community work is based at the Rainbow Centre in Penley, where we are delivering a day care service predominantly targeting the old elderly (over 75's) The Rainbow befriending project is providing a much needed befriending service to the over 50's within the community who are experiencing transition (i.e. through retirement, ill health & bereavement) , experiencing isolation or loneliness, perhaps exacerbated by their loss of confidence to go out or reduced mobility making public transport inaccessible, all of which has resulted in depression and isolation from the community. The service is two fold: The one to one befriending part of the service will allow us to work with people, on a one-to-one basis through regular weekly visits, to achieve specific tasks or goals, or to take up activities that are meaningful to them. The development of new social networks will be operated from the Rainbow Centre to combat feelings of loneliness, enable people to develop friendships and access the range of services and activities which promote positive ageing and address cultural needs. We aim to ensure that over 50's in the area will report having reduced loneliness, strengthened social networks and increased confidence to manage life challenges. We would really appreciate your support. Thank you x If you would like to volunteer for the befriending service or know of anyone in the area who requires the befriending service please contact the centre directly.
