About this cause

About our cause

PTC Sports Community Trust is an independent charity established in 2010 with the aim of delivering a brighter future for young people through sport and physical education. Craig Parry, the managing director of PTC sports came into contact with the remarkable Jacob Somerset, a 24 year old with Cerebral Palsey. Jacob had been struggling to communicate and integrate properly into a mainstream working environment because of his disability. After seeing Jacobs’s potential, Craig founded the trust and now two years later Jacob is learning both business and social skills, whilst being a productive, active member of an encouraging, supportive team.

We believe every young person should have full access to physical education and as adults, access to active recreation; with disability not being an issue to full inclusion. We appreciate for young people; schools already have a legal duty to provide equal opportunities and reasonable adjustments. However, despite the best of intentions, it can be difficult to provide provisions that result in full engagement for all children both disabled and non-disabled alike. As a disabled adult, access to recreation becomes increasingly difficult.
PTC Trust is intent on bridging this gap, by applying an innovative framework, which synonymously uses the disciplines of sport and recreation to engage people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The focus being on not just developing the technical skills of particular sport, but encouraging the related skills of cooperation, confidence, coordination and others which are not immediately obvious. Jacob is one of our coaches and as such, embodies and personifies a success of beating stigmas, stereotypes and discrimination associated with disability.
