About this cause

About our cause

Purge Boxing Academy, is the name of the gym. The reason for opening this gym was because the previous gym closed down due to a disagreement between two coaches. This has left me as a coach and eight boxers without a gym. After carefully considering many avenues and also approaching local gyms which were neglectful to the youths. A decision was raised to open our very own boxing gym since we do not want any youth to be in the same situation or position we were in. We want to bring the communities together, irrespective the ethnic background or religion. The main objective and aim is to keep the youth off the streets so they dont get into the wrong habits such as drinking, smoking, drugs or any other forms of bad habits/addictions. We similarly want to teach through boxing, which is discipline, respect, manners and let them burn their energy in a positive way. The method we will do this is by letting the youth interact with one another, make new friends and bring their confidence out. Also we want to provide a fun and exciting environment and facility for the women in our locality aswell. Below I have outlined some of the boxers and coaches already present with our team, just to outline some of the potential talent we have. We have a GB boxer by the name of Qais Ashfaq who is on the GB Podium Squad at 56Kg. He is ranked No1 in the UK at Bantamweight; he has won the Commonwealth Silver Medal at Glasgow 2014 and a European Bronze Medal in the Baku Games. By medalling at the Commonwealth and European Games, this has strengthened his chances at participating at the Rio 2016 Olympics. There will be a lot of TV exposure from the BBC and also ITV leading up to the Olympics. We also have a 3 time national champion who is number 1 in the country at 64Kg which is a light welterweight and also boxes for England named Hamzah Hussain. Also on the team we have two Yorkshire champions, including many more talented youth. We have five amazing coaches on board, one being the coach of an ex British Champion Garry Sykes called Julien McGowan. Also Mally Maciver who is a coach for the England Boxing Team.
