Over £35m raised for good causes through easyfundraising
Ghana is one of the world’s poorest countries. It is ranked 130th out of 169 on the Human Development Index, which measures life expectancy, literacy, education and standards of living.
Nearly half of the adult female population cannot read or write. Ghana is one of the most ambitious countries in Africa and education has recently been made free and compulsory. However, nearly half a million children still cannot go to school because of a lack of facilities, books and teachers.
In the summer I'm flying to Ghana with the Leeds RAG. I'm helping raise funds for T.E.A.C.H - Time to Educate Africa's Children. It is a great charity with the aim to alleviate poverty through the power of education. They provide educational programmes which place the power to change firmly in young people's hands. They believe 'a hand up is better than a hand out'.
I think this is a super duper worthwhile cause so am putting my body on the line as a manual labourer, building schools and allotments so they can continue to push for progress. Kids are having to walk hours to school to then have to go home for dinner (because they have to have hot food to kill germs) and then walk back again. For this reason many children are loosing out every afternoon with many too tired to return again, if it wasn't too late already. This could be so easily rectified with an allotment and school kitchen. I can help make this happen. But I need some help first.
All the money I raise goes to T.E.A.C.H so if you are able to spare any coinage at all it really is going to a fantastic cause!
