About this cause

About our cause

Refurb is a local charity which was set up in 2002 as a volunteer organisation with the goal to help individuals and families within the Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde area access furniture, electrical, and other household items which we collect and distribute twenty to thirty tonnes a month. To improve employment opportunities by providing volunteering with real work experience & training opportunities We are a sustainable community project without any support from other organisations or Borough Councils except for CRN, we stand alone and independent but we assist all other similar projects that need our help as we have had numerous letters of thanks for our assistance.

Volunteering: Refurb is backed by a loyal team of volunteers who generously give their spare time to help local people. Volunteers help out in areas such as Administration, van driving serving our customers, repairing furniture, testing electrical appliances.

Training: Since Refurb was set up we have provided hundreds of training places. We work with the long term
unemployed , adult's with learning disabilities, local schools and have helped people throughout the Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde area gain NVQ qualifications in Warehousing & Storage, Customer Service, Administration, Team Leading & Management. In the Last eighteen months we have achieved 12 NVQs and employed two of our volunteers.

Our Community RePaint scheme collects unwanted paint from, manufacturers, DIY retailers, painters & decorators & collection point at Fleetwood household recycling centre

So far we have redistributed 1000’s of litres of paint and helped individuals, families, charities, community groups & schools improve their surrounding.
Refurb offers Health & Safety Executive accredited First Aid courses. All courses are delivered by an experienced trainer and open to individuals, companies & groups. This facility is free to all our staff and volunteers if they choose to take it.

Courses are held in a relaxed friendly environment at our training facility in Fleetwood, however we are happy to run First Aid courses at any premises and to divide courses into short sessions to suit any companies operational needs .
