Raleigh Expedition Borneo - Rosie Thomson

Raleigh is a leading youth and education charity and since 1984 their expeditions have worked with communities in Borneo, Costa Rica and India on projects which deliver long term sustainable benefits to the people living in them. In Borneo, I will be working on a Gravity Water Feed System that will bring a clean, drinkable water source to a remote community in the state of Sabah. Not having clean water has knock on effects of ill health through water bourne diseases, as well as damaging effects when the water used for using is contaminated by agricultural chemicals. Also, many of the children living in Sabah spend hours each day walking to collect water, which leaves no time for their education. Overall, clean water is absolutely essential and the work Raleigh do is vital. As well as this, I will be getting to know the community - in the community phase it's all about learning as much as possible from each other: languages, traditions, cooking and many other skills.
