About University of St Andrews Ladies\' Hockey Tour

University of St Andrews Ladies’ Hockey Tour Team is spending 4 days volunteering in Bentota, Sri Lanka in June 2009. Through the project with Manacare, The Village of Hopes and Dreams, we will be participating in a range of things such as organising games matches for the teenagers; helping plan a show with the younger children; sewing; helping to cut and put together designs; making candles and soap and even updating the computers for the administration teams. We will also be painting and brick making for the new orphanage and the houses being built at the moment if they are not finished before we arrive in Sri Lanka. We will be working on two houses, both of which needing a coat of paint and some TLC. One is occupied by a young cerebral palsy man who was found living in extremely poor conditions and so the charity provided him with a house which he was extremely grateful for. The other house is occupied by a mother and son. The little boy jumped in a mound of burning rice husks and burnt his legs almost down to the bone. The doctors wanted to amputate both legs but the members at The Village of Hopes and Dreams saved him from that, providing him with skin grafting and special care at the hospital. He is now 14 and in good health, although his mother would love some help with the house, which we will gladly provide once in Sri Lanka. We will also be working at Karandagoda School, teaching English and coaching sports with the Helplanka Volunteer Scheme. It hasn’t been confirmed which of the two places we will be working at yet but both are great causes and either way your money will be going to help improve the lives of those that need it most. "There's quite a few sites similar to easyfundraising. But where this site stands out is it's helpful & quick replies to queries. It is so easy to set up an account & to start saving for a good cause - I've recommended easyfundraising to a lot of my friends, and they're as impressed as I am with the ease of how it works."

David - easyfundraising user

"I run a not for profit Community Interest Company and shared our cause. Very easy to use, templates ready to share on social media, with direct links to our page and pop up reminders installed for when I was shopping with numerous websites, where I could gain the free donation. Excellent service and a fabulous idea."
