Surrey SATRO helps young people in schools and colleges to discover what the world of work is all about – enthusing them about the opportunities and helping them to realise their potential.
Surrey SATRO has existed for more than 26 years as a charity which brings together educational establishments and business - we provide a vital link by facilitating relationships and by developing and running programmes within schools that enhance young people’s understanding of business, science and technology. We have over 850 volunteers from all areas of the working world who visit schools and colleges throughout Surrey to inspire young people about the world of work. In 2009-10 our volunteers worked with over 16,000 young people.
This valuable work benefits business in terms of engaging with the local community and raising the profile of the company, and provides development opportunities for their staff. For schools, the relationship enables them to enhance delivery of the curriculum and prepare their students for the world of work by accessing skills and materials not normally available to them. For individual students it can be life changing.
We work with children from the very start of school through to their final years in education. We deliver exciting science workshops and company challenges, run business games and mentoring schemes, train and support teachers, hold careers showcases, and much more besides!
