Taiko School UK

We are a community Performance and Teaching Group offering workshops and performances of Japanese Taiko Drumming. Japanese Taiko (drumming) is an ancient and disciplined art form which challenges and enhances both body and mind. Like martial arts, it requires discipline, focus, fitness and being able to work well within a group. Our workshops and classes consist of:- Fitness exercises & stretches Zazen meditation (to enhance relaxation and focus of mind, body) Learning Taiko Basics (stance, posture, technique, basic rhythm, more complex Taiko rhythmic patterns) Learning about Japanese language and culture Opportunities for Students to perform what they have learned to the local community We are a completely self sufficient organisation and have never applied for government or private funding. Our aim is to: * Find a London 'Dojo' or Taiko Centre - a venue where we can keep our drums, offer workshops and classes to adults, children, schools and community centres from near and far * Purchase more drums and equipment so that we can spread further afield into the wider community to raise awareness of this ancient and beneficial art form * Deliver workshops to as many schools in the UK as possible to bring this dynamic hands on experience into classrooms * Set up a network of localised Taiko groups throughout the UK which will encourage and invite a bigger sense of community - Taiko is the 'people's' music!
