The Downton Moot is a Norman earthwork castle, built in the early 12th century by the Bishop of Winchester, on a site beside the River Avon, South of Salisbury. These earthworks were then landscaped in about 1725 as a pleasure garden for the Moot House. These gardens and earthworks are now open to the public without charge. fundraising, maintenance works, planting and information are carried out by volunteers. Regular funding is needed, and is managed by The Friends of the Downton Moot.
