Time Out Youth Services (TOYS) has been set up by the church to support local youngsters in developing their skills, confidence and self esteem, while having fun in a safe, consistent environment. The club costs £1 a week and is held from 7.30pm until 9.30pm on Friday evenings in St Saviours Church Hall on Scott Road. St Marks Time Out Youth Club is run by a very committed and able team of volunteers who kindly give up their time to enable the young people to have this amazing facility in their community. However, the more volunteers able to help, the better, so anyone interested in supporting the young people, please get in touch. Once the young people get to know and trust volunteers, the work can be extremely rewarding if you enjoy a challenge... We currently have an average of 12 to 15 young people a week, mostly under the age of 13 and have a couple of young people who have been made up to youth leaders to present as positive role models and help volunteers in the running of the club. We engage in a range of activities from playing games, table tennis, pool, crafts, cooking and going on outings such as Splashdown, Bournemouth beach and Lazerquest. The young people are also asked to support the local community through helping with St Saviours Fete and working with Poole Housing Partnership to maintain the gardens of older people in Poole, enabling the young people to develop a strong community spirit. The club has a long history within Wallisdown and the young people get very upset if in extreme circumstances, it has to be cancelled. It is a pleasure to see the young people learning, enjoying themselves and being able to speak to volunteers about issues worrying them. Being able to watch them grow and develop as individuals is a privilege, particularly when it is young people within our own community and we continue to strive to make the club an interesting and fun place for them to be.
