The Vaccine Research Trust was established by Dr Gordon Skinner in 1982 to support fundamental research into infectious diseases and has successfully developed a vaccine to prevent herpes infections as well as MRSA, AIDS, cytomegalovirus and chickenpox. The research scope now includes research into Thyroid disease. There are now 2 clear areas of focus for Trust research: 1. Development of vaccines against infections 2. Academic research into the relationship of blood tests and clinical symptoms in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disease which will continue and build on Dr Skinner’s essential research in this area. Funding for the Trust The work of the Trust is funded by donations from private individuals and the commercial sector, grants from other Charitable Trusts and fundraising events. We are embarking on a major fundraising initiative to raise £65,000 to support primarily the thyroid research work and also to support the overall running of the Vaccine Research Trust and wider Trust research in the future.
