<Mission Statement - ‘ Our purpose is to help families to draw on their strengths, to overcome their challenges and to become the parents they strive to be with children who flourish.’ - ‘ We do this by offering relevant and innovative counselling and therapy services. These services are continually developed in response to client feedback and outcome research.’ • WLAC has been in existence for 90 years (Registered charity: 206625) • All of our services are free of charge and we have no referral criteria (apart from residency in either H&F or K&C), therefore anyone can access our services • We have a highly qualified team of experienced therapists who have the time and resources to work successfully with children and parents who are in need of support with issues such as: • Emotional, physical and sexual abuse • Isolation • School exclusion • Bullying and truancy • Mental health concerns • Parenting difficulties • We work in partnership with other organisations, for example: • Social Services Departments • Children’s Centres • Schools • Health Visitors CAMHs boards • Youth Offending Team • Domestic Violence Organisations • Victim Support • The Teenage Pregnancy Partnerships • We offer a wide range of services including: • Individual counselling and therapy for parents • Individual counselling and therapy for children • Family therapy • Groups for children (some at base, some within H&F state schools) • Groups for parents • We work with around 350 clients in total over the course of a year • Service outcomes include: • Improved family relationships • Improved personal independence • Improved health and well-being in the short term and ability to move forward • Improved health and well-being in the longer term, in later life for children and young people both by direct work with children and by providing parents with skills, knowledge and confidence to bring up their children in a positive way • Increased access to support for those most in need and improved social relationships • Support for parents who are struggling with parenting whilst also trying to cope with issues such as poor mental health, domestic violence, poverty and isolation • We seek feedback from our clients on all aspects of our services, we ask for feedback on sessions and we have run client focus groups and we use the results to plan strategy and future services. We work in collaboration with other local and national agencies and are pleased to be working with Barnardo’s over the next year.
