Cusuco National Park is home to some of the most amazing and species-rich forests in the world. As one of the top 50 most irreplaceable forest sites in the world, it holds many rare and endemic animal species, including 6 species of amphibians found nowhere else on earth! Next summer, I will be heading to Cusuco as a research assistant to the research projects in the park which study plant, invertebrate and amphibian diversity and ecology. Such research is crucial in understanding the workings of the ecosystem and provides important evidence for the continued protection of the national park.
